The FetHead from TritonAudio is a low-noise, in-line microphone preamplifier that provides improved sound for ribbon and dynamic microphones. The electronics are housed in a metal chassis with a balanced 3-pin female XLR input and a balanced 3-pin male XLR output. It is suitable for use at home, in the studio, on tour, and more.

FetHead's circuit uses phantom power but shields it from the input and the microphone's output, providing protection to the microphone. Attach FetHead to a balanced microphone cable and plug it straight into the microphone. Switch on phantom power and enjoy clean gain. This works with any microphone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works beautifully I hate to be redundant. After all nearly all the reviews of this product are positive. But I can only join in and say, this device does its job well. I have a microphone that when used with a zoom h4n pro, requires a recording level of 85 on the zoom in order to get a decent level. With the fethead and using phantom power (24v) I can get a stronger signal with the recording level on 35 than I could get previously with it on 85. This being able to reduce the level by 50 is tremendous - and with no increase in noise, as far as I can tell. Wow! And it is far smaller than its competitor, the cloudlifter, and can attach directly to the mic without an additional cable. Lots of pros - no cons at all that I can see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A transformative product The Fethead opened all kinds of opportunities for me. I have a collection of mostly vintage dynamic mics. For the first time ever I now have tons of headroom when using my Tascam digital recorder or a variety of analog to USB interfaces. Even better, for the first time I was able to hear and appreciate my EV666. It always worked but, because of its low gain, I never thought it sounded very good. With the Fethead it sounds as good as any microphone I own. I had the same experience as another reviewer here. The little triangular logo broke off almost immediately. It's pretty but doesn't do much. I will try to Epoxy it back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved the day I picked up a set of medium priced wireless mics. Like most of them the volume level was really low. I hate sending things back. These mics had a really great front end with 235 channels. I thought about it and my options. Then I came up with using the FetHead in-line Mic preamp. To my delight the preamp fixed all the problems from having to crank up the mixer so far. No more noise and hum. I use it in conjunction with a limiter unit for Karaoke to control loud singers. It also increased the sensitivity distance of microphone for weak singers. All this was made possible with the FetHead in-line Mic preamp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 100% the goods I ordered one, just in case. I really need two. Truth is, the 20-25dB of headroom it promises is bang on. No extra noise, input on my KOMPLETE AUDIO 6 is now at half. Serendipitiously, the color of the thing even matches my 635A. A match made in heaven. Great service from B&H. Only issue was the Purolator tracking - it didn't show any progress until the day it arrived, caught me a little off guard. But that's Purolator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Preamp to use with Zoom H4N I was getting a lot of hiss from my Zoom H4N built in preamp. This device allowed me to set my Zoom record level at 30db instead of 80db providing much cleaner audio from a Senheiser shotgun mic

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This purchase was for my 2nd Fethead... The Fethead has only 2 jobs: primarily to provide a great gob of ultra-clean, glass transparent gain and secondarily to prevent phantom power from inadvertently finding its way to sensitive ribbon microphones. It does the job perfectly at a perfect price. I refuse to use my SM7B without it...the activation it provides to the Shure turns it into a completely different animal. I also have a cheap Apex ribbon mic that I stuff into some foam and jam under the bridge of acoustic upright basses. With the Fethead, it kicks the stuffing out of any pickup system. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tiny, quiet, plenty of gain As the title says, it does what Triton claims. Perfect for the in-the-case piano pickup system we just installed. It is so quiet, it is completely unnoticeable in the signal chain. Before this, the mixer preamps were just about maxed out, and at that level, the preamps raise the noise floor to an objectionable level. Plug this puppy in, turn on the phantom, and now the gain setting id lower than what I use for a SM58. A product that meets or exceeds their claims. Who'da thunk?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well. No need to spend the extra $$ So I was in between getting this and the cloud lifter to use with my SM7b. I got the FetHead, and I wasn't disappointed. Very high quality built, looks good (Neumann like logo)! However I had to send it back because I did not like the Shure SM7b. So if you're planned no to use this with a low output mic, get the FetHead, it's great and will get the job done. However, from my experience noisy mics remain noisy (surely less noisy with the FetHead) I hope that was helpful.
