Stereo VideoMic Pro Rycote with Deadkitten Fur Windshield Kit Reviews

Lightweight, Decent Audio but Poor Shock Mount

I film long and continuous videowalks with a microphone mounted on a GH5 which is mounted on an expensive gimbal. I previously owned the Rode Stereo Videomic X which was a beautiful microphone, but too heavy to carry for long walks. I thought I could get by with this lighter and lesser priced Rode Stereo Videomic Pro. I was wrong. The mic's shock mount has a clunk, clunk, clunk sound as I walk. I think this has to do with how the mic rocks backward and forward with each stepI take. For me, the mount is nowhere near as effective as the X model which has the mounts on the condensers. The mic also picks up a lot of wind noise, even with the deadkitten, which the X didn't have a problem with. The other issue is the equivalent noise level which is higher than the X. More hiss. The X is heavier and costs more, but get the X, It's better. Maybe it works for some people in a limited capacity.

Awesome little mic

Honestly, I use this more than I use the video mic pro. The audio just sounds cleaner with the stereo sound, and with outside shooting it sounds great. When you put it on your camera, just turn down the camera's amp all the way down, and boost this joker to +20 with the low cut. It sounds pretty good. Very happy with my purchase.

I would purchase this mic again and highly recommend it.

I purchased the Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro Rycote specifically to video record live local bands with my DSLR camera. The stereo mic in my camera worked fine but too often high frequency cymbal crashes would distort the audio. That problem has been solved with this new mic. Prior to buying this mic, I rented a Rode video shotgun style mic, but it was too directional. While panning across the stage, I would lose audio from either one bank of speakers or a guitar amp. So far this new mic is working out fine and I'm very pleased with it. Plus, it's more compact than a shotgun mic and fits nicely in my camera bag.

Great brand with outstanding warranty!

Compact design, this latest model incorporates the new rycote mount to reduce camera shake noise. And what about the outstanding warranty? Who, today, provides a five year warranty? That alone made this selection process a no-brainer for me.

Can the hot shoe be removed and what thread is used for attachment?
Asked by: Bill
Since the "hot shoe" is the part on the camera where one slides in Flashes and such, I think you must be wanting to know if you can mount the mic on a tripod instead of the camera. The part of the3 mic mount that would slide into a hot shoe is part of the mount and cannot be removed, BUT, there is a 3/8" standard thread tripod hole in the flat part, allowing you to mount the mic off camera on a "professional" tripod. You would need a 1/8" TRS cable extender, since the attached cable is about 11" long. Hope this answers your question.

Will this plug right into the Zoom F2 ?

Will this plug right into the Zoom F2 ?
Asked by: Mark
No, the Stereo VideoMic Pro will not plug right in, but you can use adapters to make it work. Since the input on the F2 has a locking connector and the mic has a non-locking connector, the plug won't connect securely. To make it work, you can use the Sennheiser CL1 cable (B&H # SECL1) which has a locking 3.5mm TRS connector on one side and a standard (non-locking) 3.5mm TRS connector on the other side. Use the CL1 combined with a female coupler like the Hosa Technology GMM303 3.5mm Female Stereo Mini to 3.5mm Female Stereo Mini Adapter (B&H # HOASMFSMF) to join the mic's cable with the CL1. That should do the job.

question

HI,is it compatible with the nikon D7000 & DJI osmo+ ?
Asked by: Anonymous
Hello, I can only speak using the mic on my Nikon D750 but I've seen Youtube videos before I made my purchase where the Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro works with the D7000 and DJI osmo. There are several clips where people show and talk about it. I video a lot of local bands and even though the built in stereo mic on my Nikon D750 works wonderful, the high frequency cymbal crashes would occasionally distort the clarity and over modulate. The Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro has completely taken care of that problem for me. Plus for my application, it works better than a shotgun mic which is very directional. I also registered my Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro with Rode, the day I received it and got their 10 year warranty. Based on my needs, I would recommend this mic. Best of luck!
