The hood also provides additional protection from accidental impacts, bumps, or scratching. It is offered here as a spare or replacement for the hood originally included with the lens.
The four stars are because of the price, not the product itself. Yes, it’s crazy to spend so much on a piece of plastic. But I’ve tried the generic alternatives and they’ve quickly broken. (I’m a freelance photojournalist and sports photographer, so I’m fairly rough on my gear.) And it’s doubly worth it imo because the lens hood goes a long way to protecting the glass from bumps and drops.
Recently dropped my Nikon 70-200 FL lens from about 3 ft. to a board walk. Cracked the lens hood in 3 pieces but no damage to the lens thanks in part to Nikon engineering. So, I tried super gluing the hood, not a good result. So I ordered a new one from B&H and got it two days later. Now I am back in business. Thanks B&H.
