Yongnuo YN300 II Reviews

Versatile and effective lighting

I bought one of these and later added two more. I most often use them now for lighting for zoom calls. I have A/C adapters for this use. The lights are variable, which I like. They are not exceedingly bright, so you may need several to light for still photography, I bought several batteries (not included) so I have enough power when I use them for on site shoots. The barn doors that come on the unit make it easy to direct light. The remote control allows you to adjust the intensity of the lights without need to walk over to the units.

Very solid first light

When I bought this light, I had only indirect experience with LED panels. I bought it hoping to light the most scenes with the lowest budget until some magic force bestowed both knowledge and money upon me. In the couple months I've had it, it's been indoors and outdoors, performing various lighting functions for hours at a time, and sustained some wear and tear. It performed much better than I expected, and I could see this being a go-to for me for a long time. Pros: - Light control. Between the precise color control, barn doors, and an assortment of colored diffusers, it's not hard to get the light just how you want it. Really handy for complimenting ambient light or playing around. - Really fast setup. No screwing in bulbs for days, you can change locations fast. Also small enough to throw in a camera bag and carry around. - Lots of accessories. It comes with some stand accessories and some color diffuses, so you have plenty of wiggle room. -It's also worth noting that the stand attachment it comes with tilts, which is especially nice when you stick it on a stand (which you can do 3 different ways). Cons: - Power. Depending on what kind of batteries you invested in and how you use this light, it might be worth getting the next model up just to be able to use an AC adapter. Oh, yeah, and it doesn't have batteries. - Not super bright. I mean, it's kind of a given, but it's hard to light a scene with just one of these. It can be done, but it does best as a compliment to any diegetic lights or another one of these. - Not a con, just something the director kept asking me: the colored diffusers aren't gels, and won't color your scenes like gels will. They're really nice for adjusting the light but if you're after color alone, don't get too excited. I would reccomend this light to people who want to try to do it all on a tight budget, need something fast and effective on-location, or people who want lighting equipment but don't know what they're looking for yet. I could also see it working well for an amateur studio, perhaps in a school, or as just an extra tool in a camera bag.

question

how many and what kind of batteries does it need?
Asked by: Mark D.
This light has a single Sony NP-F style battery plate. You can use it with batteries like B&H Numbers WANPF550 and WANPF770. You will also need a charger for the NP-F Battery. We have both single and dual chargers available, B&H Numbers WACSOLM and WADSOLM.
