Really Right Stuff TA-3 Leveling Base Reviews

Alternative to a standard tripod head

I use this with large-format (8x10, 4x5) and medium-format cameras. As long as you don't need radical movements (90 degrees to the side for example), you can very easily and surely level the base. It doesn't correct the tilt a great deal so you need to start with a fairly level tripod already. But that is what I try to do anyway.

    Incredible!

What can I say, it's Really Right Stuff. Super smooth operation with rock solid engagement when tightened. I use this for spotting and ranging targets at long distance and shooting a 15lb rifle from a tripod.

    The TVC-24 Versa MK2 tripod would need the TA-2U leveling base. B&H # RES2LBC MFR # TA-2U-LC https://bhpho.to/31VEDGn

That is a series 2 Gitzo tripod, that center column is meant for a series 3. It will not fit.

    question

Can this be used in any 75mm bowl?
    Asked by: Sage R.
This can fit other 75mm bowl, but with caveat. The RRS video ball is very shallow, so the stem of the screw used to connect the bottom handle is shorter than most of other similar type of leveling base. For example, with a Leofoto/Robus/Induro/Benro video bowl which is a lot deeper, it needs only about 3 turns to complete loose the handle. There is a lot of stress on those three threads too so I would not recommend this for other video bowls.

    question

Work with Gitzo GT5543LS or not?
    Asked by: Nitat
Hi, Nitat,,,Unfortunately, TA-3 Leveling Base can only adapt toGitzo's GT3** or GT4** series Systematic tripods. So, I think it does'nt match your GT5543LS. Thanks.Hirofumi Tanaka

    question

What would be the advantage of using this vs the universal leveling base?
    Asked by: Rustin
The bowl is down in the tripod platform, and one handed tightening for heavier loads is easier. I have used the universal and the TA-3, I dont care for the Universal at all, but really like the TA-3. I can lock the load level much easier, and have a finer control over how much it can slip, for example, if I want to pan.

    question

Will this work on a Feisol 3372?

The specs are not the same diameter plus mounting screws are in the side for RRS and on top for the Feisol.
