Impact DUB-2 Overview

A useful and versatile addition to any lighting kit, the Deluxe Umbrella Mount with Adjustable Shoe from Impact is designed to maximize the utility of small lights or shoe-mount flashes while the mount has a socket that can support umbrellas up to 60" in diameter.

Able to tilt 180 degrees and swivel 360 degrees, the anodized black aluminum Umbrella Mount can be installed on any industry-standard light stand with a 5/8" top stud from either end of the mount. Additional 5/8" holes are tapped into to unit to allow you to mount it vertically or horizontally for maximum versatility. The Deluxe Umbrella Mount includes removable 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 brass stud adapters to support accessories. One of them, for example, fastens a cold shoe with a knurled locking knob for a secure connection to your flash.

Does not lock/stay in position after screwing into place = useless

Unless the fully screwed in position can be locked, why is this item being coupled with a boom/pole on the B&H site? Meaning, if fundamentally must be kept in upright position once on threaded base, or will otherwise will spin off, this is, fundamentally, unsuitable for use on a boom/pole where it will always be angled (on the boom/pole), fighting gravity/its own weight and the speedlight mounted on it.

I already have a Bowens-mount speedlight adapter which includes an umbrella socket – and that works fine. BUT, it is big, heavy and bulky – hard to pack when I am traveling. What I was looking for is a simple, small, lightweight yet sturdy speedlight shoe adapter to mount on a light-stand, with an umbrella holder. And that is exactly what this is. The key features I like, are the solid, reversible brass inserts that can also adapt to a tripod-mount (either ¼”-20 or 3/8”-16); the sturdy angle adjustment; the umbrella socket is teardrop-shaped so it will easily work with 7 or 8 mm umbrella shafts; the shoe-adapter has its own clamping mechanism to really hold the speedlight securely; and the best feature is that the umbrella socket is correctly angled so that the speedlight shoots perfectly centered into the umbrella whether I am using a 36” or 45”. This adapter is compact, lightweight, strong, highly adjustable, and the price is right… Perfect!

By itself, no. However, if you have a hot shoe speedring, such as either the Chimera Adjustable Versi Bracket Octa Speed Ring, B&H # CHVO, the Chimera Versi Speedring - Standard, B&H # CHSR2800, or the Chimera Speed Ring for Canon and Nikon, B&H # CHSRC540EZ, you may remove the hot shoe on the Impact Umbrella Bracket and use it to tilt the softbox setup. However, by itself, the Impact Umbrella Bracket does not have a way to connect the softbox to the bracket, hence the need of the speedring.
