Two Removable Studs
The provided studs can be removed from the interior of the bracket by totally loosening the wing knobs and letting them slide out. These studs can be used to mount the bracket on a 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 threaded stand or tripod top. One stud is used for the flash shoe. The shoe may be unscrewed from this stud.
Top Swivel Section
Identified by the small round umbrella socket and locking knob.
Bottom Section
Contains the locking swivel lever.
Vertical or Horizontal Use
Once the stud is removed, the bracket may be mounted vertically, or horizontally out from the top of almost any stand with a 5/8" (Baby) top.

This is my second one of these. I'm using them to adapt a standard light stand to use with 1/4-20 mounted devices, like accessory cameras or flashes. It's solid and sturdy, and the included brass adapters make it easy to use with a light stand or other devices. As far as limitations go, I'd suggest using this for 283 sized flashes, or maybe a lightweight hot light, 1-2 pounds maybe. I wouldn't use this for monolights or anything really heavy, it's not designed for that.

Used with 45 white shoot through Impact umbrella and Sigma flash in slave, 1/4 power. Worked great on top of an Impact lightstand to smooth out the light.

I used this with the 45 impact white shoot through umbrella and my Sigma EF-530 DG Super fine. Just make sure you've locked it down.

Excellent lightweight umbrella bracket

Very flexible lightweight umbrella bracket. Locks well and many configurations. Only negative I have is that the cold shoe could use a bit more space to avoid shorting out the flash contacts. For the flash I want to use, there is a bit of daylight between the contact and the cold shoe, but not enough to be comfortable, especially if using other flash units that may have a slightly longer contact. The little threaded flash lock screw could also be a bit better. The bracket has metal reinforcement where the threaded parts engage.

The language in the product description box ...

The language in the product description box includes vaguely worded language about compatibility restrictions for the cold shoe mount. For example: "It also includes a cold shoe mount, which will accept virtually any shoe-mounted flash unit excluding the Nikon SB-900 and SB-910, as well as the Canon 600EX-RT." As worded, the dependent clause, "...as well as the Canon 600 EX-RT," can be taken to mean either way as regards compatibility. The separation using commas does not provide clarity, so which is it? Is the Canon 600 EX-RT compatible or not with this bracket?
Asked by: Mary
Yes. I bought this bracket and I mount my Canon 600 ex-RT flash to it all the time.

question

I just need to buy the studs. Are they available separately?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes you can buy all types of Studs, What are you mounting to what? Do you need 1/4 -20 and 3/8 Male Threads, Single or duble. Look here>> Lighting & Studio>> Light Stands & Mounting>> Studs, Receptors & Pins (they are not that expensive and I found I need to keep a hand full of different ones around depending on what I need to mount.)

question

I need a cold shoe adapter for an older external Sony Flash. Is there one available that will work with this?
Asked by: Barbara H.
This should work just fine since it's a cold shoe. I have several & use them with several different brands of flash.

question

Can I purchase this cold shoe separately without the bracket? I have had bad luck with the adjustable shoes, but great luck with this kind.
Asked by: Jessica S.
While the Impact cold shoe does not seem to be listed as a separate accessory, the Smith-Victor Shoe Mount For Flash/Video Lights, B&H # SMSM, would be a similar option for your needs.

question

Can the Impact Umbrella Bracket B&H # IMBSM be used on an old light stand that has NO stud on the top? Mine has only the hollow tube that is 3/8 of an inch in diameter. It looks like I could simply clamp this bracket onto my light stand.
Asked by: Steve
Yes you could attach this bracket to a stand with a solid 3/8 top. What will happen is that the tension knob on the bracket will push the 3/8 toward the narrow portion of the opening.

Why won't it work with the Canon 600EX-RT? I believe I already own this model of bracket and it works just fine with my 600.
Asked by: Jessica S.
I'm sorry I don't shoot canon.
