Impact 3117 overview

  • 1Description

The Impact Shoe Mount Umbrella Bracket is a versatile bracket that will fit on almost any light stand. It includes two removable, reversible studs to adapt to light stands with top studs smaller than the standard 5/8". This bracket tilts and swivels to make aiming the light or flash easy. It also includes a cold shoe mount, which will accept virtually any shoe-mount flash unit (except Minolta/Sony).

Note: Not compatible with Nikon SB-900, SB-910, or Canon 600EX-RT. As an alternative, please see Impact #9101880.

Two Removable Studs
The provided studs can be removed from the interior of the bracket by totally loosening the wing knobs and letting them slide out. These studs can be used to mount the bracket to a 1/4"-20 (standard) and 3/8" threaded stand or tripod tops. One stud is used for the flash shoe. The shoe may be unscrewed from this stud.
Top Swivel Section
Identified by the small round umbrella socket and locking knob
Bottom Section
Contains the locking swivel lever
Vertical Or Horizontal Use
Once the stud is removed, the bracket may be mounted vertically, or horizontally out from the top of almost any stand with a 5/8" (Baby) top.

Umbrella Bracket is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 332.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I use this bracket on several tripod stands for my off-camera strobes. I use the Quantum T5d-R strobe and a David Ziser Zumbrella, umbrella shoot-thru light diffuser. I can adjust the tilt of the flash and umbrella independent to the light stand. With the included mount I can attach speedlights as well. The bracket is strong and appears to made of an ABS material. Large tilt handle allows me to tighten the stobe good so it doen't drop over, avoiding the possibility of harming the storbe/umbrella. Mounts to a monipod or tripod. If you pull the handle straight parallel to axis you can rotate the handle without tightening or loosening. This is helpful when gear is attached. ...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Function, low cost, might need a tune-up Plastic assembly, but with threaded steel studs on all of the important tightening adjustments. The two brass inserts are excellent, allowing the rig to adapt to pretty much anything. I ordered two of these brackets, and delivery to Ottawa Canada was very fast and trouble-free. One bracket was excellent out of the wrapper, the other had crooked holes in the plastic parts, causing things to hang somewhat precariously lop-sided. I used a 1/2 sanding drum on a drill to straighten them out, and now have two good brackets for use with my Canon 320EX slave speedlites. The 320EX locks into place without need for the clumsy screw on the bracket itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great device for my photography equipment Great product for small family gatherings such as holidays, birthdays and capturing valuable moments indoors and outdoors. My main purpose was for such... I have purchased three of these for my speedlites, and strategically place them in multiple rooms for ample lighting. In addition, they work great for portrait photography in a small room and out in the park. Will I purchase this product again? Yes, I am going to purchase three more. Do I find the price reasonable? Yes, the local camera shops charge more money for a similar product. So, why not purchase from B&H? The shipping was free and the cost was good. I highly recommend this product...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Umbrella Bracket This item came with the Impact Quikbox Softbox (24 x 24) Kit. However, even though I purchased it with a Nikon SB-910 Speedlight, the unit that was shipped does not work with SB-900s or SB-910s. I have worked with B&H to swap this out for the Impact Umbrella Mount that will work with my flash. Note: if you buy it with the kit, though, the cold shoe mount and bracket you need is in the softbox case (front pocket). I think this item is included in the kit to give you the tilt and swivel capabilities for the softbox. But, since I may use this with another stand and umbrella I have, I need for the cold shoe to work with my flash.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I don't expect it to last. This was a pretty disappointing purchase. Most of the product is fine, except for the part that actually holds the umbrella. IT'S AN UMBRELLA BRACKET! Almost the entire thing is plastic, just so you know. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. What is bad, is that the thumb screw that holds the umbrella shaft is a metal screw threaded through plastic. One good over-tightening of an umbrella and this thing will strip. And it seems like that will be easy to do. To secure a Westcott 60 shoot-thru, you have to tighten the screw all the way. Upon my first use of this bracket I was afraid I had stripped it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Just Barely Adequate! I used this in a low cost setup for a community portrait (volunteer) event. It was recommended in a class top-notch online course website along with the following equipment which I purchased: Impact Air-cushioned Light Stand (8ft) with the Impact Quickbox Softbox with Shoe Mount Flash Bracket. My rating is so low because while it worked it fell several times because the weight of my flash (Nikon SB-700, this was used in the course) and the Softbox was more than the wimpy bracket can handle. I got through the shoot because I just didn't adjust it or touch it after muscling it tight at a 45 degree angle. In all fairness the course was for a low-cost portrait lighting set-up so I guess I got what I paid for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from a bracket that almost makes it Good for its price. The best part is the angled umbrella hole with makes it easier to set up umbrella. I ended using it in complete reverse mode. I removed the brass colored barrels and swap them at the ends which allowed me to mount flash along axis of the umbrella. It is a bit larger than it needs to be. It does not take SB 900 flash or other flashes. Not very happy with the machining of the hot shoe and the hold screw is a bit flimsy.Given the issue with the hot shoe, you can get comparable brackets on *for 1/3 or 1/4 of the price.Should be priced $-$ less at retail.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Umbrella Bracket by Impact I use this to fire my speedlight off camera with or without modifiers. I like that it comes with studs for mounting to 1/4 or 3/8 lightstands or anything else that size for that matter. I can mount mine to my the handle on my rolling case. The way it's made you could even mount a small strobe. It is plastic but everything locks down tight except for 7mm umbrella posts. The larger ones work just fine and the 7mm posts are useable. I like the lever for adjusting the angle on the bracket. The ability to mount the bracket sideways onto the lightstand comes in handy too.
