Impact CA-108 Overview

 • 1Description

The Impact Swivel Umbrella Adapter is a sturdy, well thought out piece of grip equipment that allows you mount a light and umbrella on stands up to 5/8" diameter. The tilt handle is a ratcheting type that allows you to reposition it as you tighten it down- a very handy feature in restricted spaces.

Two reversible 5/8" threaded studs are included. One is a female 1/4"-20 to female 3/8" that can be used as a stand adapter and the other is a male 1/4"-20 to male 3/8"-16 that can be screwed into a flash with a female tap. The studs are tightened down with a large sliding T-handle while the swivel tightens onto the stand with a large knob. The Swivel Adaptor's umbrella receptacle will accept 7mm and 8mm umbrella shafts.

Bracket tilts and swivels to make aiming the light or flash easy.
Has a locking umbrella socket that will accept umbrella shafts up to 8mm diameter.

Impact CA-108 Reviews

Swivel Umbrella Adapter is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Skip this one, get the Manfrotto Purchased one of these and the Manfroto 026 swivel adapter to compare the two. The impace is slightly cheaper, and built similarly, the mafrooto seems to be better thought out. This design utilizes a single connection between the swivel (as opposed to a double wall with the manfrotto) the mounting holes are not deep enough to accommodate for threaded studs (causing the adapter to sight higher) and are wider then a 5/8ths stud, which cause the adapter to shift on the base. Not a huge deal, but certainly speaks towards quality control. The price between the two is just a few bucks, and in the end, the little quirks leave me thinking that the lower quality isn't worth the trade-off in price. Still a pretty huge step up from smaller adapters that I've used in the past. Unfortunately not quite up to par with the competitor, and not low enough price to make the cheaper option really a value against the other mount.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Company! I had purchased two of these adapters and while tightening one of the brass pieces I heard a snap and sure enough it was the threaded piece on the brass that had snapped. After leaving a negative review on B&H, the company that makes the adapter reached out to me. The representative I spoke with seemed very focused on learning what might have gone wrong and rectifying the situation. He sent me 2 replacement parts for free even though only one broke. The parts he sent were different than the ones that come with the swivel adapter but work even better because now there is no need to screw the two brass pieces together. Instead it is one piece that works like the two pieces screwed together. Since we determined that the week point was the thin threaded part, this solution should solve the problem. I haven't had a chance to use it with the new part but I am confident that it will work just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Swivel! I bought this Umbrella Swivel to use with the 8-1 Lastolite TriFlip reflector! I also purchased a Super Clamp T-Handle device to use so that I could get the reflector into any position I needed to get it into! This swivel is exactly like the Manfrotto model but less in price with the same quality & actually has small teeth in the locking mechanism that holds better than the Manfrotto model! LOVE IT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Dependable Umbrella Adapter I use this with Canon 600EX-RT strobes and Cheetah CL-360 with umbrellas of various sizes. I have looked for a unit that was built solid and had a positive locking ability to stop a heavy umbrella from causing the unit to drop when attached. This is the unit! It locks down securely since it is build out of metal and not plastic. The two parts have matching teeth so they form a positive connection and the locking screw will not over tighten causing the unit to strip due to its metal construction. I am very satisfied with it's performance. I will be buying more now that I have field tested this unit. My VAL (voice activated lightstand) highly approves of this one. Soon I will be testing it with my westcott 7' parabolic umbrellas for the ultimate test!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Item snapped with Light attached My first time using this I overtightened the screw that fits into the top and to my surprise it snapped as if it was plastic!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sturdy and functional The swivel umbrella adapter does exactly what it's designed to do - provide a way to attach an umbrella to a light stand. The idea of the different angles is interesting, but in practice, our heavy light fixtures kept turning if not tightened beyond measure -- but keeping the light at 90 degrees was fine (just a waste of a good tool). Sturdy, well made, easy to adjust, easy to mount. Good product if this is what you're looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better with Locking Swivel Down! I started out with Manfrotto's version of this model of swivel & still use them but after buying Impacts version, I have to say that even though they aren't as deep to accommodate certain spigots the way the Manfrotto versions do, the locking teeth in the swivel lock it down much better & that, to me, is the thing that matters the most! Nothing will slip with the Impact model, regardless of the weight used on it! ...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Brass screws strip quickly While they're good while they last, the brass screws eventually strip, and can't hold anything on the top. This was after about a year of regular use. We even bought a replacement, and left it screwed in, and it still stripped out. If you plan on using them just every now and then, these might work for you. But don't expect them to be durable for your every day kit.

The Impact Swivel Umbrella Adapter and the Manfrotto 026 Swivel Umbrella Adapter (Lite-Tite) are basically identical in build and performance.

Is this a stronger option then this? or manfrotto? 026
Asked by: Sean T.
Yes I believe it is. This swivel crank arm gives you more leverage when tightening. Also like the vise style tightener at the top. Can make half turns if something is in the way on top. Go with the 026.

It should. It's pretty heavy duty. I would put my mono heads on it.
