Rycote 39702 Overview

The black, 24/25mm Baseball Felt-Covered Windscreen from Rycote is designed to fit over a shotgun or similarly shaped microphone and greatly reduce unwanted 'swooshes' during fast swings and other rapid boom-pole movements. It is lightweight and offers increased performance over conventional foam windscreens.

The Baseball is built with open-cell foam and covered in a felt material. It can be used for fast/deep booming and plosive reduction. Additionally, it helps to protect your mic.

It works but.

I have used it a few time and it works to an extent. It is kinda coming apart and have only had it a few weeks. I was booming under an Ac vent and a light breeze was being picked up. Is seems to do the job if mic is vertical and not off axis.

works but colors the sound of the mic

This may work a little too well. I found it colored the mic quite a bit. If slipped too far onto the mic, covering the entire capsule, including the side rings, it cuts all the low end like a HPF but at a more extreme cut. To maintain the low end response of the mic, in this case an MKH-50, I had to just barely attach it to the end of the mic and then there was a noticeable loss of high end resulting in a dull sound from the mic. Unfortunately I could not find a happy compromise to achieve an uncolored sound so am returning it.

Some protection... stretchy

This provides a small amount of wind protection. Likely will need more even if moving the mic fast inside. The 22.5 mm diameter mic I bought it for fits (ME 64). The red ring is soft rubber and stretchy (not what B&H staff person said, who thought it was hard plastic. Doubt he'd handled one).

I have a Audix SCX1-HC and discovered that this 24/25mm size is the correct one for my mic after purchasing the smaller one (too tight) and this one (slightly loose but best fit).
