The black, 24/25mm Baseball Felt-Covered Windscreen from Rycote is designed to fit over a shotgun or similarly shaped microphone and greatly reduce unwanted 'swooshes' during fast swings and other rapid boom-pole movements. What's the difference between this cavity-type baseball and the original one?
This in fact the original rycote baseball. B&H sells size 21/22 as a single baseball as well as 3 pack. B&H can special order the other sizes. The Rycote Baseball comes in 19/20, 21/22 (green end-cap) and 24/25 variants, reflecting compatible microphone diameters in mm.

will this work with the mkh 8040 and mkh 8050 from sennheiser? and what shock mount should i use with this? difference to cages?
Yes, the Rycote Baseball Felt-Covered Windscreen (Black, 19/20mm, Single) will work with the Sennheiser MKH 8040 and MKH 8050 models. You will be able to use any shockmount that is compatible with these microphones as well.
