Convenient but the surface scratches easily!

Be careful with the surface as it scratches easily! For those looking to scan film, the scratches WILL be visible through your negatives. I wish the material was harder and scratch resistant. I'm considering buying something else now to replace my Slimlite for scanning purposes, but it's still useful regardless.

    Very cool and bright

How even is the light across the surface. Has anyone done a reading with a spot meter? I need a very even light source.
    Asked by: Greg
The light is quite even across the whole surface and shouldn't result in unusable variations in lighting.

Instructions are confusing for how to properly charge unit... Howdy you know when it's fully charged. And does it matter if the switch is set to USB or BATTERY during charging?
    Asked by: Daniel
Jim is correct. To charge the battery, you would insure the mode switch on the unit is set to "BATTERY." Connect the charger/adapter to the unit, and while charging, the standby indicator will illuminate ORANGE, which indicates the unit is charging. When charging is complete, the standby indicator will illuminate RED. It takes approximately 6 hours to fully charge the battery.

What is the texture of the light surface and will it produce newton rings?
    Asked by: David
The texture is completely smooth, as far as newton rings, it may or may not produce them depending on the temp and humidity at your location. An old darkroom trick is to sprinkle some corn starch on the surface and then brush it away.

If you want to use this as a background light, you could certainly do that. Of course, the objects should be flat due to limited surface area.
