Gitzo Traveler Series 1 overview

  • 1Description

The Gitzo GIGT1545T Traveler Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod is a compact support system with legs that fold around the center column and optional head. These reverse-folding legs contribute to the tripod's folded length of just 16.7". It extends to 60.2" high and can hold up to 22 lb worth of gear. With the included short center column installed, the tripod can get down to 8.6" for macro or low-angle shooting.

The tripod employs Carbon eXact tubing for added strength and stiffness compared to the Carbon 6X tubes. Traveler G-lock is a pared-down version of Gitzo's G-lock, specifically designed for the Traveler tripods to reduce overall size. These legs feature space-saving feet that fit the Traveler series' compact design. A shoulder strap is included for easy carrying.

    Gitzo Traveler Series 1 reviews

GIGT1545T Traveler Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I wanted I normally use heavy duty Gitzo but find it cumbersome to carry for shorter trips where I don't take my 600 mm lens. I decide to purchase this traveler series before my trip to Utah national parks. Yes, it's small, light and not as stabile as my other, but, performed very well in the Antelope Canyon, Bryce NP and the Capitol Reef. I used it for D810 with 14-24/2.8, 35 mm and 70-200/2.8 without any issues. So, very good for the job were large weight and super stability is not paramount.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed! I've always used heavy duty tripods from both Gitzo & RRS and this is my first small travel tripod for use with DSLRs. I initially looked at the previous model GT1542T and decided on the new updated GT1545T. The legs are slightly thicker and maximum weight capacity goes from 17lbs to 22lbs compared to its predecessor and weight is almost the same at 2.3lbs! So far I have been completely impressed with this tripod, it's sturdier than it size appears and its weight or lack of is super impressive. Not to mention it compact size. I bought this primarily for hiking, kayaking, biking and other uses where a traditional larger tripod is too weight prohibitive. After using it though, I would be inclined to recommend it to anyone who is doing a lot of traveling that wants a lighter more compact model that's going to be stable enough for general use. I've used this with a Canon 5dsr, 1DX, and lenses from 16-35mm to 100-400mm with no problems. I also have this paired with a RRS BH-30 tripod head. Great tripod and I would highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Worth the Price I had been using a Gitzo 3500 series for years, but it was becoming too heavy to take on long hikes. Satisfied with the Gitzo quality, I bought this to use with my Nikon and Fuji gear and have been extremely happy with its stability, even with a Nikon 200-500mm or Fuji 100-400mm. It's light, rugged and well designed. In very windy conditions, I hang my backpack from the center column (after retrofitting the hook from my 3500.) I really haven't noticed any degradation in the sharpness of my images after switching to this much lighter, smaller tripod. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product Very sturdy and stable. Easy to assemble and disassemble. Lightweight and easy to carry. Using the tripod for Cannon 60D, 5D Mark iii and 1DX. Cannon landscape, macro and telephoto lenses. The support staff were very helpful in answering my questions and helping me pick the most suitable product for my need. No negative comments about the staff or the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Ultralight Combo with RRS BC-18 This has turned out to be an amazing upgrade from my over 15 yr old Gitzo G126. It has taller max height, is more rigid, holds more weight, is more compact with the reverse folding legs, and is significantly lighter. Although it is my general purpose tripod, I selected this model specifically for backpacking and travel. I cannot set this up as quickly as I could the G126 but I suspect that will change as I get more used to it. For example with the new non rotating legs, you don't have to think about tightening the joints in order, it seems possible to dial in enough friction that you can probably hike with the legs not fully locked down and finally it is tall enough that I am often finding that I don't need to extend the last section of each leg. The Really Right Stuff BC-18 micro ball head is very light, has a 10 lb capacity, and allows the legs to fully fold. Also, with the 1/4-20 to 3/8 adapter, it screws directly into the center column without the milled metal platform piece further reducing weight. Removing this piece definitely reduces load rating but is not a problem at least for my purposes.I guess the only downside is the price but the quality is amazing and I expect I'll have it for 20 years or more. So really only $/year with the ball head. My inner Rain Man says, Yeah, yeah. Definitely worth it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Be careful on setup Tripod is lightweight and breaks down to a nice size for traveling. Be careful on setup though - if you loosen the locking rings too far, the leg segments fall apart. It's tricky to put them back together and make sure you don't lose the thin plastic insert that connects them. The rubber feet also loosen easily - lost one in a night shoot while I was trying to put the leg segments back together. Expected sturdier for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best portable tripod If you are after the ultimate portable tripod, this is it. Superb build quality, design and functionality. I could not afford the combo with the Gitzo head, so I got the Sunwayfoto FB28i instead. I'm sure the Gitzo head is better, but this was lighter and much cheaper and still feels very solid and hold my X-T2 with ease. See the photos of this combination

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect balance, sturdiness/portability After all the research I went with the series 1, eyelevel(im 5’7”)with column down and folds to about 16” so it fits perfectly inside my backpack, no need to strap it outside to call thieves attention. It holds my a7iii with 100-400 no problem and in light winds doesn’t even flinch. I’m using the RRS BH-40 on it the included short column for home use but have the BH-30 at hand for extra portabiliy, you can’t reverse fold all the way with the larger head. What sealed the deal was B&H, they matched amazon’s lower price so I didn’t have to wait weeks for them to have it in stock.
