Gitzo Traveler Series 1 overview

  • 1Description

The Gitzo GIGT1555T Traveler Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod is a compact support system with legs that fold around the center column and optional head. These reverse-folding legs contribute to the tripod's folded length of just 14". It extends to 54.3" high and can hold up to 22 lb worth of gear. With the included short center column installed, the tripod can get down to 7.9" for macro or low-angle shooting.

The tripod employs Carbon eXact tubing for added strength and stiffness compared to the Carbon 6X tubes. Traveler G-lock is a pared-down version of Gitzo's G-lock, specifically designed for the Traveler tripods to reduce overall size. These legs feature space-saving feet that fit the Traveler series' compact design. A shoulder strap is included for easy carrying.

    Gitzo Traveler Series 1 reviews

GIGT1555T Traveler Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and Lightweight Great tripod if you need light-weight, but sturdy construction...and you have the $$$ to spare. It isn't cheap, but this feels like a you get what you pay for product. I used it in windy conditions this past weekend and got little to no shake. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shockingly small, but stable When I first took my tripod out of its box, I was shocked at its small size. Once expanded, this small tripod becomes a stable platform for my Nikon D810 even in light breeze. This tripod is small enough to easily fit in a carry on, and to cary even on a backpacking trip. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Traveling At 14 inches this tripod will easily fit into your suitcase without hogging all the space and at a mere two pounds will not present a weight problem when checking the bag at the airport. The construction is top notch and well engineered. Having purchased two Manfrotto tripods in the past I wanted to stay with the brand as I have always found them to be excellent, but I settled on the Gitzo tripod because the specifications were the best for my needs. It was a very pleasant surprise when I went to register the Gitzo and discovered that it is from the high-end division of the Manfrotto family of tripods. As the tripod is somewhat expensive, I would suggest that it resolves some important issues if you are looking for a necessary photographic tool when you are traveling. To me it is a perfect solution to problems I have encountered in the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TOP OF THE LINE COMPACT/LIGHTWEIGHT TRIPOD if you are looking for a high end travel tripod that you can easily take on board a plane--this is your baby ! with a good ballhead it should easily support a 70-200mm lens. if you are going to be outdoors where it can be very windy, i'm not sure i would extend the center column very high.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Tripod but could be better This review is for Gitzo 1555T exact carbon fiber tripod. Very well built and good looking tripod. Every part extrudes quality. Even when the smallest diameter leg is extended, I don't see any flexing of the tripod legs with my Canon 5d Mark-IV and 24-105 lens. The rubber tripod feet is screwed to the last tripod leg. When the twist locks of the tripod is turned, it tends to unscrew the rubber tripod feet. Many other reviewers have lost the tripod feet in field. I used Loctite threadlocker blue 242 to prevent it from unscrewing easily. This defeats the purpose of changing the tripod feet based on environmental conditions, but it is still better than losing a rubber foot. There is no bag with the tripod. It comes with a strap, which offers no protection to the tripod. I am using an old tripod bag with Feisol written in huge letters. I think Gitzo is losing out on free advertising here. The center column is non-rotating. This is achieved by having a notch that runs the entire length of the center column. This is a useful feature as it prevents large rotations when a user is panning with a fluid head. Though the center column is non-rotating, if the center twist lock is not tightened, the center column will wobble and ruin the fluid pan shot. The center column does not have a hook at the bottom. The part number for the hook is D104214 and costs around $30 USD. Ffor the price they are charging for this tripod, this hook should have been included with the tripod. The order of opening the twist locks on the tripod legs does not matter. This allows the user to open all twist locks in one motion while opening the tripod. To get the minimum folded length, the center column has to be extended and the legs folded at 180 degrees. This does not work very well when I have a acratech video ballhead. My video ball head does not allow the legs to close at 180 degrees. The normal folded length (without 180 degree) is 16.5 inches I would give five stars, if Gitzo had provided a tripod bag, a hook and spare rubber feet (considering the fact that they know it can drop off in normal usage).
