Gitzo Traveler Series 2 overview

  • 1Description

The Gitzo GIGT2545T Traveler Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod is a compact support system with legs that fold around the center column and optional head. These reverse-folding legs contribute to the tripod's folded length of just 17.5". It extends to 60.8" high and can hold up to 26 lb worth of gear. With the included short center column installed, the tripod can get down to 8.7" for macro or low-angle shooting.

The tripod employs Carbon eXact tubing for added strength and stiffness compared to the Carbon 6X tubes. Traveler G-lock is a pared-down version of Gitzo's G-lock, specifically designed for the Traveler tripods to reduce overall size. These Series 2 legs will accept a variety of interchangeable feet and come with removable rubber feet. A shoulder strap is included for easy carrying.

    Gitzo Traveler Series 2 reviews

GIGT2545T Traveler Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent design, solid construction, reasonably lightweight I recently purchased the Gitzo GT255T tripod as a replacement for a well-used Sirui N-2204. These are both excellent tripods rated for similar camera + lens weights. The Gitzo is considerably more expensive. The additional price translates to a tougher, beefier piece of equipment, a little more height, and more stability at full extension. These days, I am primarily shooting with a Wimberley head, a Nikon D4, a Nikkor 200-400mm lens and a 1.4 TC - a fairly heavy setup which I lug over my shoulder through the Alaska bush. I hesitated to spend this much on a tripod, but now that I am using it, I couldn't be happier with its performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Search is over! I started many many years ago with Bogen tripods and moved up to Gitzo when I needed the extra strength for my old Pentax 6x7 film camera. Now after many more years I have gone from mid weight gear such as my 5D Mark II to the Fuji X system and this tripod is the absolute best I've had. It has very limited flex along with great strength. The feel is solid but it is also very light. Truly amazing how far tripods have come over the last 20 years! I highly recommend this tripod. I use it with an Acratech Ultimate ball head. It is perfect for travel in carry on (just take the head off) and for everyday use as well. I have hopefully found my last tripod!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tripod I use this for pretty much everything when I'm working away from home base. I've used it with still and video cams and, while it's not as resistant to wind up during video panning as a real video tripod, it's pretty good. I've used the tripod with up to 5 x 7 film cameras, although more commonly use it with 4 x 5 and MF. I put an FLM head on it because the head has a couple of features that I really like, such as the ability to lock the side to side motion and still use tilt. It's compact enough to fit in my carry-on bag and I've taken it as far afield as Japan and will probably use it in Europe later this year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Light Weight Compact Tripod Great travel tripod for compact fit and will work nicely backpacking with the light weight. Purchased the Really Right Stuff BH-30 Ball Head with Mini Screw-Knob Clamp and it fits nicely on the Gitzo GT 2545T tripod and can be placed in the Really Right Stuff 19 Compact Tripod Bag. Very impressed with the ease of setting up the Gitzo GT 2545T Series 2 Traveler tripod. Has a very solid feel even when fully extended and can be adjusted quickly. Needed to purchase the Bubble Level for Series 2 Tripods and that seems to help with leveling the tripod. This is the second Gitzo tripod purchased and have been very please with the quality and quickness setting the tripod in the field or in a studio setting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but Missing Some Things -Before this I had an aluminum Bogen Manfrotto tripod, it was extremely sturdy but very heavy. I strapped the Gitzo to one side of my normal backpack for a whole day and it never bothered my shoulder. It's so light that you hardly even know it's there. Also the Gitzo is very sturdy for being so light. -With the new carbon exact technology this tripod for being so compact/short will stand full height very tall with no center pole. That was a huge selling point for me. -I love the ability to easily change from a center pole to none. One of the downsides is that neither the center pole nor stumpy version have a hook in the bottom. There is a pass-through on an edge of the center column very near the center of gravity for a strap or S hook to hang something. -The spiked feet fit perfectly and aren't too large. -Now the biggest downside that can actually be a hinderance: There is no intermediate leg locking position. It's either up right or close to 90degrees to the ground. A middle locking position is a great help that at this price should have had. -I am using an Arca Swiss P0 and the small size and low weight is a great match, just be aware that the legs will not fold overhead properly because the P0 is too wide. I simply just remove the P0 with the stumpy center pole and put it in my bag. -As for maitenence, there are O rings to keep water out of the legs and the leg sections are also very easy to remove for cleaning, just continue to unscrew further.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of the best This tripod works for me using a GFX and lenses up to 400mm. I use it with a Cambo Actus as well. This tripod will fit into a Think Tank Airport Commuter bag, just barely, so I can carry one an entire medium format set up from 18 to 320mm [35 equiv]. The tripod is very light and at 17.5 inches long when folded just is very easy to travel with. I use it with a Markin ball head which is a touch larger than the Gitzo companion head. It folds, unfolds and sets up effortlessly. The twist action for the legs has a very short throw so I actually believe the Gitzo marketing about a "quarter turn". the thing about this tripod is that it clearly is very high quality and it has a subtle effect on you when using it. You feel comfortable and sure it is the best of what it is. You have to pay for this effect of course. But I have never regretted getting this tripod. And the stability to weight ratio is hard to beat in a 17.5 inch length.
