Clamp broke

When I got it, it was a very good boom arm. When I got a new studio desk, and moved it to this desk, the clamp broke. I asked for warranty service from Samson, and the requirements are to send the WHOLE arm back in it's original packaging (which I have) AT MY COST. This is a bit ridiculous in cost for a small, single point-of-failure. I welded a piece of pipe to a c-clamp for less than the postage was, and I will not be buying anymore items from this company, as I don't trust what corners they may have cut, and their failure to truly honor their warranties.

Love it

This is for those thick desks!

My desk is about 2.4-2.5 inches thick, and thank god this is within this thing's clamp range. Very sturdy, although its really stiff to move around, but adding some lubricant to the joint can easily solve the problem.

I wish the arm was easier to move. It's really tough and requires a little bit of pulling to move. If i had a thinner desktop, I'd worry this would damage it.

Very sturdy, long reach

This is an awesome boom arm. I considered Rode PSA1 but Samson 38 is longer reaching and also comes with attachment piece for permanent desktop installation. That additional piece doesn't come with any other boom arms on the market such as what you can find in Amazon in this price range or even more expensive ones. Also the arm itself is very sturdy, quiet operating and just very nicely built. Easily support Rode Procaster and its heavy shock mount.

If only the mount didn't break.

This seemed pretty solid, and the mounts clicked under the fingernails like metal, so I was happy there wasn't a bunch of cheap plastic that would fail. At least, until I moved it to my new studio desk... now I'm down and out over Labor Day weekend... Anyway, looking at the pic, you can see the granularity of the cheap casting - a properly formed metal would've sheered, and would be flatter and shiny if it was stressed beyond it's capability. The price reflects this, and this is, of course, a typical example of you get what you pay for...

Is it possible to mount/suspend this arm from above?
Asked by: Mark
The MBA38 is not intended to suspend from above. It does come with two types of mounts -- a clamp style mount and permanent flange mount. The stem for the arm inserts into the mount from the top. You could attach the clamp mount to a shelf and then position the arm so the mic comes downward, but the arm can not be mounted upside down.
