Benro TSL08CN00 Tripod with Ball Head Overview

This Slim Tripod from Benro is constructed from carbon fiber to minimize weight, supports up to 8.8 lb, and includes an Arca-type ball head with quick release plate. Designed to conserve space during storage and transport, the tripod measures 20.1" long and 3.2" wide when folded. Its 4-section legs each feature an independent spread, a 3-position angle lock, half-turn twist locks for rapid deployment, and a rubber foot to enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces. Together, the three legs can be extended and spread to raise the tripod from a minimum height of 15.7" to a maximum height of 48.4" or 57.6" with its push-and-pull, rapid center column fully raised.

Cameras, lenses, or sport optics that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the included quick release plate. The quick release plate can be attached or removed from the integrated, Arca-type clamp located at the top of the head's ball-and-socket joint by tightening or loosening the clamp's knurled, locking knob. While the top of the quick release plate features a nonslip rubber platform, dual retaining screws are provided along its underside to prevent the quick release plate and an attached camera from accidentally sliding off when you open the clamp.

By loosening the ball head's primary locking knob, the head's ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled, angled, fully tilted, or returned to its upright position. Additionally, the primary locking knob controls the ability to pan the head 360°. For added versatility, the tripod's center column is reversible, facilitating low-angle photography where an attached camera is positioned among the tripod's legs instead of above them.

A nylon, drawstring bag is provided for storage and transport.

Benro TSL08CN00 Tripod with Ball Head Reviews

Really Solid Light Tripod, Terrible Head

This is exactly what I was looking for in a travel/walkaround tripod for shooting stills with a mirrorless. It's small and light, but the build quality is confidence-inspiring. You always want a margin of safety with a tripod, and I would not want to use this with an 8lb DSLR setup, but it's wonderful with a 4lb mirrorless. One unusual feature I especially like here is that the center column is keyed so it won't rotate, allowing you to really positively thread on your ballhead. The center column is aluminum which I think strikes a nice balance between weight savings and sturdiness. I also like that there's no rubber or plastic overmolding on the leg locks, so you get a really positive lock action, which should stand the test of time. The included ball head is usable, but it is a very poor showing, and is not nearly as nice as these legs. It has angle adjustment marks for panning, but no separate control for pan, so these are decorative, I guess? Ball smoothness is mediocre, and the integrated bubble level is hidden underneath the plate, which itself is really small with hard plastic inlays at the attachment surface, so you don't get much friction. It also features not one but two fixed stop pins, for maximum frustration. I replaced this ballhead immediately with a Novoflex Ball19 I had around, and it is a superb pairing. Hey, the blue even matches! Overall, these legs occupy a nice niche, offering quality but fairly-priced lightweight tripod that is ideal for mirrorless shooters who want to keep it light and minimal. I think the asking price is a fine value for the legs alone, so I rate this 5 stars, in spite of the throwaway ballhead. It is surprising that Benro doesn't include something nicer here- I love the ballhead on my little Benro Tablepod, so they clearly know how to make a solid lightweight ballhead.

Ball Head is SOO BAD!

I was looking for a really lightweight tripod with a small head for doing outdoor photos of some kids that will mostly be in portrait style. I wanted something I could quickly flip to portrait, was light enough I could quickly grab the entire camera mounted set with one hand, and move without much issue. The tripod itself I think might have fit the bill, but this head is so incredibly bad. Aside from the tighten control to the right, effectively making it impossible to tilt right - the biggest issue is it goes beyond 90 degrees when tilted. Like, way past. It's too bad these reviews don't allow customer pictures, you'd be astonished. I mean, the entire purpose of of a tilt head is to go at a right angle, so as long as I've leveled the head when it's flat, my tilt should go to 90 degrees. This goes well beyond 90 degrees, leaving you to basically guess. Very disappointing.

Yes, it is an arca swiss style head, just like the Peak Design Capture plate. This tripod should also include a plate of it's own.

question

will this carry heavy dslrs? also is this durable for like mud wind snow rain hail lakes intense rivers and hiking? thanks
Asked by: Top of the Hill Films G.
This Benro Slim tripod is rated at a maximum load capacity of 8.8 lb and will hold whatever cameras, lenses, flashes, etc. that you have below that weight limit. Because it is also a slim carbon-fiber tripod it is not very stabilized in heavy wind, snow, rain, hail, rivers etc. Take a look at B&H # BETAD28CB2 as an alternative.

The Benro TSL08CN00 Slim Carbon-Fiber Tripod with Ball Head only supports 8.8 pounds so it would not be recommended for use with a gimbal head.
