RODE VXLR+ Overview

The Rode VXLR+ is an adapter that lets you connect a mic equipped with a 3.5mm TRS connector to the XLR input of a professional camera, recorder, or mixer.

The VXLR+ also converts 12 to 48V phantom power down to 3 to 5V plug-in power, allowing lavalier, headset, and shotgun mics to receive power from the XLR connector.

Compact and lightweight, the adapter is terminated by a 3.5mm female TRS connector at one end and an XLR male connector at the other. The 3.5mm connector is threaded to ensure your mic doesn't disconnect during recording.

Is this compatible with balanced or unbalanced XLR?
Asked by: John
The VXLR+ is designed to convert high voltage phantom power used with pro balanced XLR mic inputs into much lower bias voltage (plug-in power) that is needed by many unbalanced electret condenser mics like lavalier mics and shotgun style camera mics.

Will a 3.5mm input plug without threads work with the VXLR+?

Yes, a non-threaded 3.5mm input will work with the RODE VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, the threading is simply for locking connections.

Can I use this to plug XLR microphones into a ...

Can I use this to plug XLR microphones into a 1/8" input on a mirrorless camera? Will it feed adequate power to the microphone?
Asked by: Greg
No, unfortunately, the RODE VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter cannot be used in that way. It is designed to connect a 3.5mm microphone that requires plug-in power to an XLR input on a mixer, recorder, or video camera like the Canon XA50 that can supply phantom power. The VXLR+ has a built-in phantom power converter that converts up to 48V of phantom power down to 1 to 10V of plug-in power. If you are using an XLR microphone, then you will need a cable or adapter that has a female XLR connector to go into the mic, but the type of cable or adapter required for this application will depend on the type of XLR microphone that you are using.

If I plug a stereo mic to the VXLR+, does it mix both channels into one mono? Or this just uses one of both stereo channels?
Asked by: Emiliano
If it is a stereo mic it should have two VXLR connectors, one for each channel so you would need two adapters.

Will this work with a non locking trs cable?

The RODE VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter does not work with microphones without a locking connector. The locking ring is required for the plug to make contact.

Hello, The Tram TR 50 comes with 3.5mm as well. But it can be wired for Sony or Senheiser or perhaps other mics. Will this adaptor work with a Tram TR 50 configured for a Sony Mic? Thanks.
