Dracast 600 Plus overview

  • 1Description

The BoltRay LED600 Plus Bi-Color Light from Dracast is a versatile fixture with color that's variable from 3200 to 5600K while maintaining a high CRI of 96, indicating an accurate and faithful rendition of color. Light intensity is also variable from 0-100% without flicker thanks to Dracast's use of PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) technology coupled with a single Chip-on-Board (COB) LED. The LED600 Plus has a 45-degree beam spread which can be further shaped with the included 4-way barndoors, allowing you to light areas that you want to and keep light from areas that you don't. The light metal and plastic construction backed with a U-shaped yoke makes it easy to mount in difficult places.

The light features high output with low 60W power draw and runs barely warm to the touch thanks to a virtually silent fan. Besides the barndoors and yoke, the light comes with a diffusion filter, soft nylon carrying case and a multi-voltage AC power adapter that allows you to use it anywhere in the world. It will also run on optional batteries when mains power is unavailable, thanks to its dual NP-F battery plates.

BoltRay LED600 Plus Bi-Color LED Light is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding LED Light Excellent build quality. Nice compact unit that puts out a lot of light. Very easy to adjust Kelvin and brightness. Included barn doors obviously helpful for directing the light and are easy to slip on and off. Can easily serve as a hair light, fill light, etc. Glad I purchased the two batteries for power versatility. The power cord screws into the back of the unit so it stays secure. The fan is extremely quiet--I need to have my ear near it to hear it at all, so I'm sure it will not be a problem filming videos. The soft-sided bag keeps everything together and organized.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better build light - cable sucks The light is a much better build than the old model. I really like having the screen to see my color temperature. The preset buttons are great and having two battery slots is awesome. But the AC adapter cable arrived looking like an 8 year old crimped it. It started fraying and the shielding came out of the connector on day 1. I'm really disappointed in the quality control with Dracast. I just had another AC adapter stop working in the middle of a shoot. It's really hit or miss with them. I hope they can get their act together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value! Great value! Great price! The preset color temps are excellent. I was a little worried about the fan being too loud, but it is really quiet and not an issue during shooting. Ive used it for multiple shoots, and so far it works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Light I’ve been very happy with the quality of this light. I’ve used it at 5 weddings now. I bought the larger batteries and it lasts the whole reception. I love that it runs on batteries and has the tempurature and brightness dials.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from like this light I like the light because very small and easy to carry. compatible with the NP-F battery very practical and compare to the came-tv Boltzen 55W it can be 100% with the battery. the color is beautiful. the barn door does not cut 100% well the light it leaves a small graduation.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pretty disapppointing QC 1. The build quality just seems like a toy in the hand. It's one thing to be lightweight but it's another when it comes to the feel in the hand. just feels cheap. 1.5. The indicators on the back is a piece of sticky plastic. It is so poorly done that it was peeling off the moment I opened the box. 2. The control dials can come off really easily. There is no hard stop either direction. The copy I got, the temperature control knob malfunctions... When I turn and change from 5600k to 3200k, it gets stuck and hovers around 4100k -/+ 1000k... Same thing when I try to go from 3200k to 5600k. 3. When the lamp is set to 3200k, it seems normal, but when I did a white balance test, it's actually 3600k. It seems like a small difference but when you use it with other accurate lights, you will see the difference. 4. Also, in terms of brightness, when set to 5600k, the output suddenly seems much less. Compared to setting to 3200k, daylight is about a full stop of light less... I have used many Dracast led lights and recommended to many people, but this particular led fixture disappointed me greatly...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality control. Abysmal soldering. When my light arrived, I took it out of the box and heard something rattling around in the back of it. Being the curious sort, I opened the back panel (which only takes two screws) and found a large inductor there, loose. Weirdly, the light did work. I sent it back to B&H for an exchange. I got the replacement today, and surprisingly there was something rattling around the back of the second unit. I again opened the back cover, and found yet another inductor. I took a look at the soldering and general construction and decided to stay FAR away from this brand in the future. Aside from a few other foibles, you can see in the attached pics that there's a diode secured on only one end, and it's about 1mm away from shorting out to another component at its other end. There's a mess of rosin visible, and the solder joints look like a student made them. (Apologies for the poor quality photos -- they were hastily taken with my phone.) If it were just one unit I'd chalk it up to something slipping past their QC people (if such people exist). Two units in a row? That's enough to turn me off the brand. That being said, the light was surprisingly bright and the controls worked smoothly. The integral fan is very quiet and the body, while plastic, seems to be fairly well-made. The low-voltage power cord on the first unit I received was about 3 ft long, meaning the power supply would dangle from the light when it was mounted on a stand. The second unit has a ~7ft cord, and the power supply has a higher-quality feel. Go figure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Second concerns on QC I too had same problem w/ loose inductance coil. I figured I had a rare defective unit, but now I'm concerned others have had same problem. Returned to B&H for replacement, we'll see how the second unit turns out. B&H return policy and procedure is the best!
