As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.
Wide-angle prime is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 32mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field for achieving selective focus effects.
Two special low dispersion (SLD) elements and three F low dispersion (FLD) elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve greater clarity and color accuracy.
Two aspherical elements are used to limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
A super multilayered coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
A stepping AF motor benefits both photographers and videographers with its fast, precise, and near-silent performance.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
The bayonet mount is constructed from brass to ensure accuracy and durability. Additionally, rubber sealing in the mount design renders it dust and splash resistant.

Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Reviews

Made for APS-C but works great on FULL FRAME, too.

Shooting northern lights video on Sony a7S, a7S2 for several years now, using the Sigma 16mm 1.4 in fullframe mode, sure has some vignetting but not a problem , I can deal with it, plus nightsky and vignetting is really no problem... and when you shoot video you already crop top and bottom for 16:9 aspect ratio, and can edit more e.g. letterbox 1:2.35 or 1:1 ratio for Instagram, whatever, do it ! Use aps-c lens on fullframe as a cheap affordable creative solution. You can choose to shoot in crop mode if you prefer, or shoot in fullframe mode with a little bit of vignetting you can handle. and then I tried the RF version, on my RP, R6, R8, R5C . What a beauty ! In all Canon fullframe cases the firmware of the camera recognizes that this Sigma lens is designed for aps-c body so it FORCES the 1.6 crop. Result : you loose lots of MP... but chill, bro ! You still have more than enough for most uses, especially webpublishing, nobody needs 20 or 30MP for webpublishing... video FHD 1080p is, well, do the math : 1080x1920 ? only needs 2.1MP.. 4K only needs 8.4 MP ... LARGEST image you can share on Facebook is 2048 x 2048 pixels, you do the math... oh but wait, there's more . So I bought the Sigma RF 10-18mm 2.8 at B&H as soon as it was available, shipped to Iceland as I was shooting northern lights again, and use it on R6 and R8 and sure enough it crops to 1.6 and I can't do the other aspect ratios. No big deal, I know this was coming. More annoying is that loose highspeed slowmotion video on R6 and R8 when cropped to 1.6, cannot have both. HOWEVER on my R5 it only limits slowmo video in 4K, can still do in FHD ... and BIG SURPRISE : On my R5C the Sigma lens only gets cropped 1.6 when in PHOTO mode, not in VIDEO !!! Because it is a different cinema program... and so I can actually shoot video in Full at 10-18mm ... there is not much vignetting at 10mm in fullframe and if you zoom in just a tad it goes away, also if you shoot video with the digital video stabilisation turned on as it crops slightly inside. and what about the Sigma RF 16mm 1.4 ? I tested it for a month ( given by Sigma in Switzerland ) and shot northern lights videos with it on my R6 which of course automatically forced the 1.6 crop so it is not so wide... however it is still f/1.4 fast and the autofocus in low light worked amazingly, shooting the nightsky with northern lights in autofocus, tack sharp, no hunting. image shared here is a video still from my youtube video

I have been an M43 user for over twenty years. I was looking for a wide angle Prime lens that can capture photos in low lighting scenarios especially in the evening and at night during wedding receptions. I found it with the Sigma 16 mm 1.4. I would have considered the OM 17 mm 1.2 but the price is 2.5x higher than the Sigma. This Sigma Lens is a very good fit with my OM 1 Mark 1 Camera. The image quality is very good. I have many OM lenses (12-40 mm 2.8, 40-150 mm 2.8, 75 1.8, 45 mm 1.2). This is my only non OM lens but it delivers.

without inputs from a camera, does this lens open fully, and can it be focussed by hand?
Asked by: Andreas
My Sigma is mounted on a Panasonic G9. There is full communication between the lens and the camera. There is no AF/MF switch on the lens but this can easily be set on the camera. Manual focusing is easy if you turn on Focus Peaking. The aperture is also set in-camera. This is also extremely easy, either in Aperture Priority or Full Manual. I am sure that it works just as well on an Olympus body.
