LaCie Rugged External HDD Reviews

Sensible

The hard-drive itself isn't rugged but has a rubber enclosure to protect it, presumably from drops of a few feet. I wouldn't huck it out the window of a moving vehicle, but I'm not sure your external drive needs that level of durability. What you're getting here is a solid, sensible, functional increase in your storage space at a reasonable price. I am using it to store large (7gb) photoshop working files so that my MacBook doesn't get bogged down. Working well so far...

The LaCie rugged series of drives have always been a great choice for external storage when reliability and durability are required. The USB-C connectivity in this particular model is great for future proofing. Highly recommend, no complaints thus far.

The LaCie Rugged hard drives are very reliable and tough. This is my sixth one. Over many years I've never had one fail. They are useful for data backups which don't require fast transfer speeds. If you need a faster drive, 'consider the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro models.

I like LaCie hard drives and I have a variety of them and have never had trouble. Until this time. I have a MacBook pro with USB-A connections, still. The drive with the USB-C cable and adapter didn't work. It received power through the setup, but not enough to connect and give me the HD icon on the desktop. Tried all workarounds suggested, but no luck. Bought a USB-C to USB-A cable and - so far - it works.

Which would be the best match for a macBook pro macOS 10.14.6? I want to move my photo catalog to an external drive.
Asked by: Susan
I use the LaCie 5TB Rugged for LR. I have both the LR catalog and the photos on the drive. It makes it easy to access my photos from any of my MAC computers with LR installed. MacBook when traveling and iMac at home. I also regularly backup the LR catalog and photos so a dedicated backup drive. I have not noticed any speed issues with the 5TB Rugged. Its a trusted workhorse in my book!

Can I use this external hard drive to hold my 4K footage that I am editing on my iMac and Premiere Pro CC or do I HAVE to get an External Hard Drive that has faster speed???
Asked by: Erick
Sure you can use this for footage. The speed of the drive and connection will dictate how quickly the system can access the footage, but it will work just fine. I use mine for 6k Black Magic footage and it works great.
