I'm using High Sierra and I have two of the WD 8TB Elements Desktop USB 3.0 Hard Drives working perfectly. You will have to reformatted the drive to work with your Mac.... easy to do and only takes a couple of minutes.

My desktop Mac is 6 years old. I have all my photos on one of four drives. I want to make a copy onto an external drive and use that in future. What should I use for this?
It's a good choice, but because I didn't know if it would do what I bought it for, I made compact discs of all my photos. Sounds bothersome, but my wife and I had a wonderful time reminiscing as we went through all the pictures and made a fun project out of it. It took a little while (8,000+ pics) but we had a great time reminiscing and sorting the kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and pet photos so we had some nice moments to pass out at Christmas that year!
All the photos are still on the WD8TB drive in great shape and we keep adding new pics so the next CD will be seamlessly updated with current history. I would strongly recommend this product! SEE THE RESPONSE AFTER THIS ONE (not mine) BUT IMPORTANT!! Have fun!!
