Lowepro BP 350 AW Overview

From Manufacturer

This heather gray Lowepro FreeLine Backpack 350 AW is a versatile bag that features two primary configurations. Inside its spacious main compartment, a removable, folding partition system forms three shelves that can be used to store camera, video, audio, or digital media equipment. The shelves can accommodate a DSLR camera kit with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens, and to enhance the ability to organize the contents, a Lowepro Gear Box equipment pouch is included. Cords, adapters, and other essentials for the devices carried by the FreeLine Backpack 350 AW can be inserted within the Gear Box, keeping them organized and available. Complete access to the FreeLine Backpack 350 AW's interior is enabled by a zippered rear panel, while two zippered side openings further complement the folding partition system and Gear Box. While in use, the folding partition system's shelves and the Gear Box itself can be reached when the bag is rotated from one's back to front with either side opening facing upward. Each side opening also provides interior organizational pockets for memory cards, batteries, or other accessories that are frequently exchanged when an item is removed or placed within a bag.

When the FreeLine Backpack 350 AW is worn, a dedicated compartment for 15" laptops rests directly behind the shoulders, followed by the main compartment, and a front-facing pocket for items that need to be accessed quickly and conveniently, such as a pair of sunglasses or music player earphones. Positioned above the backpack's base, the laptop compartment helps minimize the effect of any bumps or shocks upon its contents. Along the exterior of each zippered side opening is a large, open pocket that can hold a water bottle, tripod, monopod, or trekking pole; any one of which can be secured using a locking strap above each pocket.

The FreeLine Backpack 350 AW can be carried using its built-in top handle, or by its adjustable shoulder straps. A zipper along the inner edge of the strap which rests over the wearer's left shoulder opens to reveal a pull-out smartphone pocket that accommodates even large-screen mobile devices. When traveling over difficult or uneven terrain, the bag's waist belt transfers weight to the hips for additional comfort, while the sternum strap further limits unintentional shifting around the wearer.

Featuring durable, weather-resistant nylon construction, this backpack's attachment webbings along its sides and on the face of its front panel allow for pouches with external straps such as the Gear Box to be clipped or tied to this bag's surface. While traveling with a rolling case that features a dual-column telescoping handle, a pass-through band across the center of the FreeLine Backpack 350 AW's rear panel allows this bag to be mounted onto such handles for added convenience.

Lowepro BP 350 AW Reviews

Wanted to love it but…

Like many other reviewers, I found this pack to be almost perfect except for some fatal flaws. It is very well constructed, offers great protection for my gear, and is, for my 5’8” torso, very comfortable. After struggling with the very sticky partitions, I made room for my Sony A7RIII with 24-105, 70-300 and a third prime or W/A of choice. There is room left over for my remote and one or two other accessories. Filters go into the top. The little accessory bag is a nice touch, and holds cleaning stuff and maybe a charger.  The near-fatal flaws include: 1) The fiddly metal clips that you are supposed to use for the chest, tripod and other accessory straps just don’t hold, and in some cases even fall out. The first time I tried to attach a tripod, it actually fell out when I stood up. I finally just replaced all the straps with new nylon webbing with proper buckles, including the chest strap, and it’s fine. But I should not have had to do that. Just use traditional buckles…the work, why try to improve? 2) Would benefit greatly from a waist belt, especially one with accessory pockets for batteries, knife, snack bar, etc. Making it removeable would be an extra plus. 3) Just a bit too little space in the top section. I want to be able to take along an extra layer, maybe a lunch, a book, some binoculars, maybe a filter folder. But no go…just a smidgeon too small. Otherwise, a great pack, very well made, solid and protective, and looks great in the grey “flannel” material.

How do a DSLR full-frame kit w/ attached 70-200mm f/2.8 lens fit? How well does it fit sideways and/or vertical? Any pictures?
Asked by: Curtis
The Lowepro FreeLine Backpack 350 AW (Heather Gray) will accept a full frame DSLR and 70-200 2.8 attached. It won't fit sideways. You will need to place it vertically. You will need to bend two of the dividers to place it vertically. Unfortunately, we do not have a photo showing that.

What is the shoulder strap width? Can this accomodate a Peak Design Capture clip?
Asked by: Matthew
The strap of the Lowepro FreeLine Backpack 350 AW is 3" wide. The Peak Design Capture clip fits, but it is tight, so it would be better to use the longer screws that come with the clip

The Lowepro FreeLine Backpack 350 AW (Black) could fit the Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR Camera with the Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens for Canon EF attached vertically. It could not be stored sideways.

How to access the side pocket if it is a ...

How to access the side pocket if it is a backpack? A backpack needs two front straps, there is no way to have a quick side access unless at least one strap is taken off. I love the comfort of backpack because it distributes the weight evenly but I also like the sling type bag for fast access. Is this the combo of both worlds?
Asked by: Harry
Just like others have stated, you have to slip one strap off in order to slide the pack around to the front.
