This is the P164 Circular Polarizer Glass Filter from Cokin. It fits in the optional Cokin P Holder. Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. A polarizer helps make a blue sky bluer as well as making clouds stand out. It can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
- Makes a Blue Sky Bluer
- Makes Clouds Stand Out
- Eliminates Reflections in Glass, Water
- Rotates Within the Optional Holder

Cokin P164 Reviews
Not a good experience
I bought this filter and was never able to rotate the front element - I don't see a front element to begin with. I have a set of adapter rings and Cokin P adapters, and thought that this would complete my Cokin system. I even showed it a few (though they don't use Cokin), and they could not get it to rotate. Rotating the entire holder is not how CPL works, the two glass elements, with one rotating creates the polarizing effect. I have a 62mm circular Rodenstock CPL, but limits my usage to only 2 lenses that I have. This is the limitation I wanted to overcome when I purchased this item. The Rodenstock is absolutely great. I used this only two or three times and not immediately after I received this. This is because of my confidence in Cokin. Now it is out of return period. Searching on the internet has many solutions, but I don't want to try all of them till it works, and potentially break the whole thing. Disappointed.
It does it's job, however...
Getting this filter into place in the cheap plastic filter holder that came with a P series grad filter starter kit I bought earlier is difficult. Once its in place its very difficult to rotate and removing it from the holder is only possible by removing the entire filter holder from the lens adapter. I believe this issue is with the holder not the filter so if you have a better holder you should be happy with this product.
