Novoflex NIKZ/CAN Reviews

for any camera system, novoflex adapter is the best for fd

Perfect. Lightweight, precisely machined with no flaws, excellent durable matte black finish. Comes with a convenient and clearly labeled transparent hard case. Perfect fit on the nikon z side It fits all canons- nfd bayonet, and fd breech lock. and it fits all offbrand fd mount lenses that I have tried including sigma. Most importantly, the opening of the adapter barrel is large enough to accommodate lenses with a protruding rear element. Many fd lenses extend slightly into the fd camera body / adapter barrel, and get stuck on other brands of adapters. Sigma fd lenses work with the novoflex. sigmas and other offbrands do not work on any other fd adapter. some adapters, the barrel is so narrow the lens won't go on at all. others, it seems to go on with a snug fit, but it might binds and get stuck when you try to disconnect it. This is very hazardous to your lenses. This is never a problem with the novoflex. Avoid the adapters with moving parts, especially fotodiox. The fotodiox adapter does not work at all with breech lock lenses, the design of the bayonet blocks the ring lock from turning. the barrel was so narrow, it blocked many of my lenses from connecting at all. Compared to the simmod fd adapter, this novoflex is much lighter, the matte finish is not wearing off of the contact points like the simmod is, the machining is smoother and more precise, and the barrel is wide enough to fit all brands of lenses. I gave the simmod a good review, it works great with canon branded fd and nfd. but I later found the barrel of the simmod is too narrow and it cannot be safely used with sigma lenses. I had to spend several minutes wrestling my sigma fd zoom lens off of the simmod adapter. it still seems ok but it must have put some wear on the lens because there is no non-rotating part of the barrel to grab it by. I had no choice but to grab it by the focus grip, and all that strain of pulling it out of the adapter was put directly on the helicoid hard stops. I never want to experience that again. (I asked to update my review of the simmod, but bh has not responded to that request.) This is expensive. but seriously, if you care about not damaging your lenses, your only choice is to get the novoflex. there is one small thing about it that could be improved. it would have been nice if they made the Z mount alignment dot on the adapter white to match the white dot on my nikon camera. this has a red alignment dot on both sides. nikon lenses have a white dot, canon has a red dot. Nikon twists onto the camera in the opposite direction from canon mounts, and that white dot on nikon lenses reminds me to do it correctly.

Typical Novoflex build quality. The construction and fit and finish are excellent while not being too bulky or heavy. I'm really pleased with this adapter! Also note: if you're not familiar with Canon FD lenses, the FD mount is a little more complex than other lens mounts. This adapter is equipped with a pin that should be aligned behind (to the left of) the aperture lever on the back of the lens, otherwise the aperture will not adjust when you turn the aperture ring. Its easiest to do this by first mounting the lens to the adapter (so you can see and properly align the pin & aperture lever), then mount the adapter to your camera body. All mirrorless-to-FD adapters use a similar pin design to address the FD mount's aperture controls, but again, I really like how this particular adapter is one solid piece as opposed to some of the other offerings on the market.
