FotodioX LM-NIKZ-PRO Reviews
Its ok...
I'm not sure why my original review was removed.... however I did mention that the item I got looked nothing like the picture but BHPhoto has now updated the product image to what it should be. Hope it was just that. I'm a little underwhelmed with this adapter. Would be nice if it came with front and rear caps, even if it costs more as a result. The M mount side is a very weak fit, and virtually the only thing holding the lens in place is the small locking pin. There is virtually no resistance even with brand new Voigtlander and Leica lenses. My 60 year old Leica glass fits even looser. The only saving grace is the release lever has a strong spring holding the pin in place. Otherwise the lens would risk coming off. The Z mount fit is perfect. Buttery smooth and not loose nor too tight. The finishing of machined parts inside could be a little neater, like proper deburring of machined edges would be appreciated. My biggest gripe is the description of maintains infinity focus The wording is a little deceptive. Infinity is achieved with this adapter but its far from accurate... all my lenses achieve infinity focus well before the hard infinity mark on the lenses, and as a result lenses with floating lens elements are just about useless. By all means sell a shim kit or include one so that the flange distance can be adjusted. All my lenses are at infinity when focused to the 15ft or just past the 5m mark. If you're curious about shooting M glass on Nikon Z cameras and just need an itch scratched, by all means this adapter is ok. But if you're serious about using M glass long term, then look elsewhere.
Very, Very Good - one big negative for me
I tested this with a Z6 and a number of rangefinder lenses. The corners held up very well - very pleased with that. The big negative for me is I focus often by using the distance scale. Evidently this adapter is a little short in thickness because if you want to set the lens at, say 20 feet, you have to set it at about 14 feet. Same at infinity - you have set it closer. The good news it's not too thick, then you wouldn't be able to focus father than maybe 30 feet (depending on the lens of course). Seems to be very well made for the money, so I don’t think you will be disappointed if you don’t use the distance scale and focus by way of the EVF. That’s why I give a 4 rating - for me it’s 3 but for others not using the scale probably close to a 5. I ended up buying another brand - it’s thickness seems correct and I like the fit and finish better - but it was 3.5 times the price of the FotodioX rated here. I kept this one as a back-up/extra.
