Styled in a limited-edition reflective silver finish, the Audio-Technica AT2020 Cardioid Condenser Microphone is designed to bring sonic performance distilled from the company's reputable studio condensers to the realm of home recording for podcasters, musicians, and content creators. The capsule features a low-mass, side-address diaphragm with a cardioid polar pattern for rejecting ambience and noise behind the mic, a welcome trait when tracking in untreated rooms. The supplied shockmount isolates the mic from vibration and handling noise while contributing to the "big studio mic" appearance.

The AT2020's extended, linear frequency response enables the flexibility to accurately reproduce signals from a wide variety of sources such as vocals, speech, and instruments. High SPL handling and wide dynamic range allow the AT2020 to capture loud signals with minimal noise and distortion. Since the AT2020 is a solid-state condenser with an XLR output, it should be mated to an XLR-equipped mic preamp capable of sending 48V phantom power.

Studio Quality at Home

Designed for home/project studio applications, this side-address cardioid condenser mic is engineered for extended frequency response and enhanced transient response. With its studio-quality articulation and intelligibility, the AT2020 is ideal for musicians, streamers, podcasters, and other content creators.

Cardioid Polar Pattern

The AT2020's cardioid polar pattern primarily picks up sound in front of the mic while being far less sensitive to sound behind the mic, allowing it to capture your voice or instrument with reduced background noise.

Ready for Daily Use

Along with its rugged construction and high-performance specifications, the AT2020 provides reliability, high SPL handling, and wide dynamic range. It comes with a vibration-reducing shockmount for 5/8"-27 threaded stands, an adapter for 3/8"-16 threaded stands, and a protective pouch.

Features at a Glance

  • Custom-engineered 0.6" low-mass diaphragm
  • Extended frequency response and superior transient response
  • High SPL handling and wide dynamic range provide great versatility
  • Cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup of sounds from the sides and rear, improving isolation of the desired sound source
  • Shockmount provides superior decoupling from vibrations
  • Operates on 48 VDC phantom power from a range of devices such as portable mixers, desktop audio interfaces, or external mic preamps
  • Balanced XLR 3-pin output connector

This is a very nice set up for those that want a really good mic for home office zoom/Teams calls. This has a great sound provided to online presence. I have this paired with a Focusrite Scarlet audio device. I have also added a Aury SHM-SCM1 shockmount but this is not required for the excellent sound that is picked up by the mic. My only complaint is the boom is short and does not reach very far.

Quality build

I use a mike for voice overs and connect the mike via a Behringer Q502USB mixer and I was plugging in a cheap mike into the phono jack which didn't give me a good sound. The Behringer has an XLR input so I wanted to try that. Did a lot of research on mikes and settled on this one. It was a good choice. I purchased the Kopul Studio Elite 4000 XLR cable along with the mike to make sure I had a quality cable connected to the mike. It's a condenser mike so it needs phantom power which the Behringer mixer supplies. The mike's cardiod pattern suppresses background noise not coming from the front of the mike. Note that you don't talk into the top of the mike, but rather into the side. Thus, the mike is optimized for sound coming directly in front of it. So far, I'm very happy with the mike.

Clean & Chrome!

It sounds clean and looks great in chrome! I even bought 2 and trying out stereo micing various sources. I'm using a standard hoop-type pop filter, which is working great on the plosives. But, I've got a couple large foam hats on the way, just so I can get a little closer with vocals.

Low price high SPL!!!

Great little mics! Very sturdy build!! Sound is better than expected at this price point. Although the noise is about what you would expect at this price point the high SPL makes up for it, especially on high output sources. Very happy with the pair I bought!

How do you attach the mic mount to the mic stand? the "male" end on the stand is too big for the "female" end on the mic mount
Asked by: Brian
Hi Marty, Can you please provide a step-by-step video on how to do this? I've tried to attach the microphone per your instructions (removing the 5/8" to 3/8" adapter and either I'm an idiot or the reflection filter/microphone stand simply does not fit. It states in the instructions that if you are using a handheld-style or shotgun microphone to attach a mic clip (not included) to the 5/8" adapter. This kit is perfect but if I need to be an additional microphone clip, then that should have been included in the kit and the price adjusted accordingly. Thanks.
