    Domke F-803 reviews

F-803 Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag (Sand) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 75.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Olive Drab F-803 I bought this bag after about a month of diliberation. I wanted something that I could carry my gear around Mexico City with without potential thiefs knowing I had thousands of dollars in camera equipment in my bag. This bag looks like any other messenger bag that is around, and it is about that size. I hold my D7 with a 50mm attached, 70-200mm, and all the extras and still have room for other things. It maybe a little on the light side for protection, but if you arent dragging it over jagged rock faces and banging it into everything you pass by it is more than enough to protect your equipment. In my opinion a great carry around bag for forgein travel!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I walk and work safe in the streets I am a photojournalist and this bag is inconspicuous and holds my 5D MKII with 20mm, 35mm and 50mm lens and additional Olympus LS-10 digital voice recorder. I feel comfortable with walking in the streets. The bag is it doesn't look like a camera bag. It's very discrete and is slim so you can negotiate crowds without bumping into people. The two zip pockets on top: used for my id, memory cards, money and keys. The back open pocket, expands enough. Had my cellphone in it, small notebook and pen.The front pockets used for my ThinkTank rain cover, samsung hard drive, 5D MKII extra battery, another notebook and pen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Confessions of a Camera Bag Junkie I have to admit that I am a junkie. I keep buying hoping for the perfect camera bag. I have bought more than 15. The F-803 is unquestionably the one I keep going back to when I hit the road. It is inconspicuous and holds my 5D MKII with lens and three additional lenses and monopod. Its the only bag I feel comfortable with walking through big American cities or shanty towns in the third world. It doesn't cry out Steal Me! or Mug the guy carrying me! I'm holding $worth of camera gear!. Its the only bag I've worn out (I'm on my second). I still have a dozen other bags sitting in the closet, some still in their cellophane. I guess its craigslist for them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great for micro 4/3rds I also own a Domke F4 which is a great bag for full size cameras. But i wanted a Domke for going to work to carry a Lumix and a sandwich. The F803 is great for that. I was using a Timbuk2 Snoop camera S messenger but I hated how stiff the bag is and the rigid nylon strap. I wanted a Domke with a small flexible strap, so the 803 is much better in that dept. I ordered the FA-230 also and that really sucks up the space. The std insert is ok as is for me. I may put the 230 in later for other outings but for daily trip to work the std setup is perfect. i dont mind the buckle on the F4 but it really sucks on this bag, JMHO. Velcro would be better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant bag for smaller camera systems I've always been a fan of Domke products, in particular the F-802 bag, which functions just as well as an everyday messenger bag as well as one that can easily carry a full DSLR setup and fairly big lenses. But after adding a Fuji XE1 mirrorless to my setup, I needed a smaller bag for the occasions when I did not need to haul all the glass along - and the F-803 fits perfectly. All of the benefits of the F-802 bag which I know and love, in a smaller, lighter size. It accomodates the camera, a number of lenses (depending on the size, but mirrorless have smaller lenses compared to the big L glass) and the back pocket will accept a full-sized iPad.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Admirable but flawed This is my third Domke bag. One of the others is a slightly larger predecessor model to this one. I wanted the shorter length, improved strap, and darker color offered in the latest F-803. The advantages of any Domke satchel are its unobtrusiveness, simplicity, and light weight. The flaw with the new F-803 is the reduced size of the clip that fastens the front flap. It's easy to close the bag but difficult and sometimes painful to open it. See photo. I can foresee real problems struggling with this hardware in cold weather. The older Domke models use the same kind of clip but in a larger size that makes it much easier to handle. This is a problem with the F-803 that has been well described by another reviewer elsewhere online: The metal clip works and you can open it and close it with one hand, but it can also shred your fingers if you're not careful. If you're not paying attention to what you're doing this clip will take a chunk out of your finger. I can see no way to replace the clip, or I'd swap out the one from my older bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My best choice, ever I looked for a smaller and compact bag after the excellent F6, which I have been using since 2007. The F803 is perfectly right for my rangefinder kit wit two bodies and three or four lenses and the usual stuff which comes along. It's new and stiff but it will become softer with the use. I added the fitting two-compartment insert and it works really well. A smaller bag is less bulky and I also carry less stuff, which I do not use anyway. I do not understand the function of the ring and buckle at the sides. After (still) loving the F6 I love this one, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two surgeries later, it's perfect for my needs Since taking up infrared photography, I routinely carry two cameras (Panasonic G5 converted for IR, and Sony RX10 for other purposes). Most shoulder bags in this size category are designed for a body with lens + an extra lens or two -- not for two complete cameras. The light padding in the F-803 gives me the needed space. This works because I got out the scissors and removed one wall of the padded insert. Now it functions as a single divider panel, giving plenty of room on each side. Like many others, I also had issues with the clip used to fasten the front flap. A few minutes' huffing and puffing with a couple pairs of pliers, and the clip was gone. I replaced it with an S-Biner (size #3), and now I can fasten and unfasten the flap with no loss of blood. Bottom line: this is an excellent bag and can be made even better with a couple of tweaks.
