TASCAM TH-02 Overview

The black TH-02 Studio Headphones from TASCAM are designed to deliver studio-quality audio for a wide variety of studio and music listening applications.

These closed-back headphones feature powerful, 50mm drivers that are set at 32-ohm impedance. This design aims to deliver a balanced, accurate response whether you're cutting tracks in the studio, or listening to music on your mobile device.

Engineered for comfort as well as sound quality, the TH-02 headphones feature padded headband and ear pads. Built with easy transport and storage in mind as well, the TH-02 headphones feature a collapsible, foldable design.

Worked great for price and application

My daughter was looking for help recording podcast video in a busy convention hall. She wanted to able to record during all of the activity and show the energy of the room with activities happening on the stage, in the booths and people everywhere. Her booth was setup to between the floor seating and the parameter booths so I knew they would need headphones that provided a fair amount of isolation to be able to have a conversation for her podcast recordings. We recorded one-two guests at a time with seperate headphone mixes for each person. I used Elite Core Audio EC-PMA Personal Monitor Headphone Amplifiers to boost AUX send outputs from the Behringer XR18-AIR mixer. No problem around unity gain for almost everything more than enough output in the hectic and loud environment. I sorted by price low to high and skimmed the options from B&H, these ones had good reviews and not very expensive. I also checked online for other reviews and proceeded with the purchase. They clearly are not as nice or high quality as other headphones I own but they were solid enough to be shared across many interviews throughout the weekend tossed around a bit and safely transported back and forth. No user complaints about discomfort, no complaints about tone or volume the headphones worked as needed and and as intended for this project. I found the tone to be a bit gross in the mids so I listened to a few reference tracks and used the parametric EQ built into the Behringer XR18-Air AUX sends to clean up the sound a bit to my preference. Nothing crazy, I didn't break out SMAART or Open sound meter and a reference mic just tuned a bit by ear. I also own Sennheiser, AKG, JBL, Bose, Sony headphones and these TASCAM would not be anything I grab for casual listening or critical mixing applications but I am pleased with the purchase overall. After the long weekend of my daugters event I was able to package the headphones back up, toss them on the shelf for future events, I already got my $75 worth of value from them so anything in the future is just bonus.

Connection shorts out

I'm very disappointed in these headphones. I've purchased dozens of pairs over the last several years for a video production classroom, and lately they haven't lasted long. The connections are shorting out way too soon for the amount of use. I'm throwing out 9 of about 25 pairs today.

What's the difference between the TASCAM TH-02's and Tascam TH-02B's...?

TASCAM's TH-02 and TH-02B are the same headphones. The "B" at the end references the black finish.

Do the ear cups swivel in either direction ? Are ...

Do the ear cups swivel in either direction ? Are they true over the entire ear or do they sit on the ear ? And would a hard of hearing person be able to hear with this model ?

The ear cups on the Tascam TH-02 do not swivel but they do enclose the entire ear. The closed-back design helps to cut down ambient sounds and background noise. It is difficult to say whether or not these particular headphones would work well for someone who is hearing impaired. If they wear hearing aids that fit behind the ear, the speakers will need to be approximately 1 centimeter from the hearing aid to avoid problems with feedback. They should be OK for someone who wears hearing aids that fit inside the ear canal. The best way to determine whether any headphones will be suitable for someone whether or not they are hearing impaired would be for the person to test them to make sure they sound good and are comfortable to wear. Headphones with 50mm drivers will typically fit over the ears of most users. B&H does offer a 30-day return policy, so you can try out the headphones and they are eligible for return within 30 days of purchase if they don't work out well.
