20.9MP DX-Format CMOS Sensor and EXPEED 6 Image Processor
The DX-format 20.9MP CMOS sensor is paired with the EXPEED 6 image processor to provide a versatile mixture of high sensitivity, nuanced image quality, and fast overall performance. At native values, a sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200 permits working in a broad array of lighting conditions, and can be further expanded up to ISO 204800 for extreme low-light conditions. The mixture of resolution and sensor size also contributes to clean image quality and smooth color transitions with reduced noise throughout the sensitivity range. In addition to benefitting image quality, the EXPEED 6 processor also affords a wealth of speed throughout the camera system, including a top full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 11 fps.

Besides imaging, the sensor's design also incorporates a 209-point hybrid autofocus system, which uses both phase-detection and contrast-detection methods to quickly and accurately acquire focus for both stills and video applications. This focusing system also supports Eye Detection AF, which uses facial recognition to help lock focus onto subjects' eyes.
UHD 4K Video Recording
Capable of recording more than just stills, the Zfc supports UHD 4K video recording at up to 30 fps and Full HD recording at up to 120 fps, for slow-motion effects, along with the ability to save movie files to the in-camera memory card. In-camera time-lapse shooting is also possible.
Heritage Design with Intuitive Functions
Precision carved aluminum dials with engraved markings and mechanical controls for shutter speed, ISO, and exposure compensation. Intuitive functions also enable easy access to auto mode, quick settings, and the menu help guide.
Body Design and Connectivity
  • A large 3" 1.04m-dot LCD screen is available for bright, clear, and vivid image playback and live view shooting. The screen has a vari-angle design, which benefits front-facing selfie captures, and it is also a touchscreen for more intuitive operation, navigation, and settings control.
  • A 2.36m-dot electronic finder is present for comfortable eye-level viewing. It has a 1.02x magnification and uses NIKKOR optics to guarantee a sharp, clear image.
  • A robust magnesium alloy chassis is both dust- and weather-resistant to benefit working in harsh climates and inclement conditions.
  • Built-in SnapBridge connectivity to enable seamless transfer of low-resolution imagery as well as remote shooting capabilities. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi enables communication between the camera and a smart device and, additionally, the mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter and display a live view image from the camera to enable working from a distance.
  • Live streaming and web conferencing via separately purchased USB Type-C cable.
  • 3.5mm stereo mini-pin jack provides plug-in power
  • Included EN-EL25 rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 300 shots per charge.
  • Compatible with NIKKOR Z lenses as well as F-mount lenses using the separately purchased FTZ Mount Adapter.

Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR Lens (Silver)

Compact and versatile, the Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR is a 24-75mm-equivalent zoom designed for DX-format Z-mount mirrorless cameras. Covering a wide-angle to portrait-length zoom range, this lens is well-suited to everyday shooting situations. Its optical design incorporates aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements, which help to reduce a variety of aberrations for sharper, clearer image quality throughout the zoom range. A Super Integrated Coating has also been applied to minimize ghosting and flare for increased contrast and color accuracy in bright and backlit conditions.

The lens's flexible focal length range is complemented by Vibration Reduction image stabilization, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to 4.5 stops for sharper handheld shooting. A stepping motor provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override to suit both stills and video applications. Also, a programmable control ring can be set for intuitive adjustment over a variety of camera and exposure settings.

The classic silver finish matches the retro-styled Z fc camera body.
Standard zoom is designed for DX-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 24-75mm equivalent focal length range.
One extra-low dispersion element reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Four aspherical elements minimize spherical aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range for greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
Super Integrated Coating suppresses flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Stepping motor delivers impressively smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also possible and an internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
Vibration Reduction image stabilization minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to 4.5 stops for sharper handheld shooting.
Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.
Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field techniques.

All I ever wanted in a Mirrorless Camera.

What great camera

I started using Nikons in the 70's and went on to 4x5's and resisted digital cameras as long as possible. I tried a few recommendations but my old school thinking was my down fall until my daughter introduced me to the ZFC. It's an easy camera for the old die hard to use. Set it to manual and I've never been happier.

Great camera for doing a little bit of everything.

I'm relatively new to photography/videography. Having the control dials on top has really helped a lot with learning photography in general. Rather than hunting through menus or using presets/auto, It's forced me to think about the outcome of my settings. In the audio world I favor control surfaces for mixing and this is that same vibe. I'm pleased with this camera and I appreciate BH for helping me make a better buying decision.

I bought this for work to record short videos and take a few other random photos. It works wonderfully. I am not a pro photographer, but I definitely recommend this camera.

A lot of great uses here

I purchases the Nikon Zfc as a second camera to my Nikon Z6; primarily for blogging videos, and as a camera to take around on hikes with my significant other. Having a screen that fully articulates to face front is a game changer. No longer do I have to use the finicky app to see myself from my phone. It's also great for taking couple selfies. Having dials on the top reminds me of old film cameras, and I find it incredibly useful because I often shoot in Manual mode, and love being able to control ISO from a dial. You really can't go wrong with this camera. That being said, this is not a top-grade professional camera, and you'll notice that in certain areas, none of which were a deal breaker for me. Basically, I wouldn't go and shoot a wedding with this camera as my only camera, but who would? It's not designed for that, and lacks redundant card slots, etc. It fits a certain niche perfectly, either as a second camera if you do a lot of blogging, or simply love the function and feel of older film cameras.

Sometimes I just want a lighter load

I am planning a trip to Italy in the fall and wanted an easy-to-carry camera that I can drop in a purse instead of the 20 lb bag of gear I'd take on a photo safari to Africa. Being a Nikon user, and lover of a retro-look camera, this fit the bill. It is lightweight, fun to use, and the images so far are great. I am using the 16-50 kit lens and also purchased the new 26 f/2.8 lens which I know will be useful for shooting interiors of churches and such do to the faster speed. This camera makes me feel much less conspicuous than I feel lugging my D780 and 24-120 lens and will be my go-to for street photography. This is also my intro to mirrorless and it is giving me the bug to make the full leap. The only con is the lack of grip, so I added on a Smallrig hand grip which feel like it was born to be there.

My first Z adventure

This the Nikon Z fc is my first venture into the Z series. I was amazed at the sharpness of my images and how excellent it did in low light conditions, going to take it to a car show in another state tomorrow. I love how the colors are dead on. Havnt used video yet looking forward to that. This is so retro looking people ask me where do I still get film developed: At B&H they throw in a very well made camera bag. Can't beat it for free.

Old School Goodness

I've had a lot of high-end Canon film cameras in days gone by. I was never much for digital even after trying out a Canon SX10 more than a decade ago. Been using phone cameras ever since. After searching through the new digital cameras from Canon, nothing really stood out. I switched to a Nikon search and this beauty came up. I love it. Old school meets new school. It has everything on it an analog camera has except the film winder arm and exposure counter. If I want to delve into the menus, that's there too. Most shooting is done with the analog controls and it is very intuitive to use for someone that loves film cameras. If you miss the old days, don't miss this camera. The included bag is above and beyond anything I expected as a freebie. This is a well made, heavy duty bag that includes Velcro compartment panels to arrange as you please for your equipment. More pockets than you'll know what to do with too.
