Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 Reviews
The perfect walk-around lens for me
I shoot mostly street portraits, and I want the smallest, lightest gear I can carry. I almost sold my Z6, because with the 24-70mm f/4 lens it's uncomfortably heavy to carry around for hours in my hand. Even a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 F-mount lens with FTZ adapter is heavier than I prefer. This 40mm f/2 lens is compact and lightweight, and the images I capture with it are plenty sharp enough for me. It focuses quickly, and I don't mind that the mount is plastic. With this lens, I rediscovered the joy of using the Z6.
I like it over all
The lens is sharp and fast, very versatile. I use it for beach sessions and I love that it has low f stop and lets me use more light once it's getting darker. The only thing I am noticing sometimes the focus is hit and miss. But I always take multiple shots so I usually end up with sharp image. I just have to keep in mind to get enough shots. But over all , I like it and it is affordable
Pretty incredible
A great compact, light lens I use mostly for street. I didn't expect to like 40mm more than 35mm for this purpose. It's discreet, focuses quickly and silently, has reasonably good bokeh given its construction and great micro-contrast. My only gripe is that it's soft at the minimum focus distance, but it's probably an inevitable compromise and then there's 35/1.8S for that!
great optic
Excellent sharpness and a great match for my Z5. Images work well with the in-camera effects. Ideal for Tabletop work.
Great all around lens!
Bought this as my first Z-mount lens after picking up a Z7ii, the pictures are nice and sharp, and no real noticeable vignette, even at the widest aperture. It's very compact and makes for a great "adventure" lens. Only cons I've noticed are that the body and mount are primarily made of plastic and there doesn't appear to be any weather sealing, but for the price you can't really complain! Definitely a great lens for the money!
My new go to lens
I've been very satisfied so far with my new Nikkor lens! And I love the feel and shallow depth of field the f/2 gives me. And under $300, is hard to beat. It's now my favorite portrait lens! If you're looking for a quality low cost lens, this might be your ticket.
Perfect companion
This lens is a perfect companion to my Z6 II. it's light and well balanced on the camera, speedy enough for most low light situations and the focal length is a comfortable fit between 35mm and 50mm. It also is a comfortable focal length for my Z50. Image quality is excellent. Great value in this lens.
Great addition to my arsenal
I wanted something smaller than my standard 24-120 for street photography - this is it! Lightweight, with sharp images.
