Nikon OceanPro 7x50 Overview

Specifically engineered and built to withstand the rigors of life on the water, Nikon's black 7x50 OceanPro Binoculars produce bright and clear images while reducing the disorientation commonly experienced when using binoculars in marine environments due to the rolling action affecting the horizon line when seen through magnified optics.

Their large objectives give the binoculars high light transmittance for enhanced low-light performance such as on cloudy or foggy days, and the large exit pupils help to further reduce the effects of rough and rolling seas while ensuring the entire scene remains visible in low light. The Porro prism optical design, combined with multi-coated optics, produces high-contrast images with true color representation and a rich depth of field that allows you to more easily discern the relative distances between objects in the field of view.

To hold up to the salt water and spray, the housing is made of corrosion- and impact-resistant polycarbonate, with rubber armoring on the exterior to provide protection against drops and impacts as well as a slip-resistant grip in cold or wet conditions. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled for fogproof performance, especially when moving between extreme temperature variations. They are waterproof to 3.3 feet for up to 5 minutes, and if they should go overboard, a high-visibility floating neck strap is included, so you'll be able to fish them out of the water in time.

Optical Performance
  • Moderate 7x magnification helps to produce a wide exit pupil for enhanced low-light use and easier viewing on rough or rolling seas
  • Large 50mm objective lenses boost light-gathering ability for brighter views in challenging conditions such as at dawn and dusk or in heavy fog
  • Traditional Porro prism light path presents a rich depth of field to more easily discern the relative position of objects within the field of view
  • BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Anti-reflection multi-coated optics improve light transmission for brighter high-contrast images
  • Generous 378' field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Large slip-resistant center focusing knob is easy to manipulate in cold or wet conditions or while wearing gloves
  • Fold-down rubber eyecups contour to the eye socket to block peripheral light from affecting the view
  • Right-eye dioptric correction allows users to compensate for optical prescriptions for sharper views
  • 56-72mm interpupillary adjustment range
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter
  • Long 22.7mm eye relief allows the optic to be held away from the face and prevent accidental impacts on rough seas, and to make viewing more comfortable with reduced eyestrain
  • Wide 7.1mm exit pupil allows users to enjoy the entire view without vignetting, even on rough seas

Nikon Ocean Pro Bins

I bought these bins for spotting migrating Hawks. They have an ungodly large field of view, good glass, durable feel, and they weigh two pounds. Great for handing to civilians at counting sites. Worth the 250 price tag.

Nice classic 7x50 center focus Porro - nice price.

I purchased these not for sailing but rather for astronomy.  These update the Porro prism 7x50s so popular in the last century with astronomers, carrying forward all of their virtues - generous eye relief, 7-degree or larger FOV, flat, well-corrected field edge to edge, bright 7mm exit pupil (matching the fully dilated pupil diameter of a healthy child or young adult observer) and engaging three-dimensional views that only Porros seem to deliver.  To these virtues the Ocean Pros add a few others generally not present in the 7x50s of yesteryear, including decent waterproofing, very light weight for the large prism size and large-ish dimensions (due to the polycarbonate frame), and better multi-coatings.  Are these the best available 7x50 astronomy binoculars?  No.  But they are one of the best values, all things considered.

Are you limited by the eye cups not being able to twist into multiple heights? Any black outs for eye relief?
Asked by: Bryan
I do not believe you will have any issues. However if you do wear Glasses it might be an issue. I do recommend maybe going with a Model that have Eyecup's that can twist down, or fold down. Like a Steiner Model would work well.

question

Are these stabilizing binoculars ?
Asked by: Anne S.
Im not certain what that means. I use mine for whale watching when I volunteer at Marineland in Florida. Perfect for that with compass and measurement feature.
