Yes it comes with a strap. For general birding the Audubon Society recommends an 8X magnification. However, if you are looking at an eagle nesting a 1/2 mile away 10X would be more appropriate.

Open box means the binoculars were once used in a demonstration. They still come with the lifetime warranty from Zeiss but you will most likely notice the box has been opened once before.
