Watson FastPower V-Mount Battery Overview

The FastPower VM-140-FP Battery with USB Ports from Watson is built with advanced features for powering studio gear like cameras, lights, and monitors while rapidly charging peripherals like laptops, mobile devices, drones, and wireless transmitters. It features USB-C, USB-A, D-Tap, and 8/12 VDC barrel output ports, and an advanced LED control screen that provides constant updates on the battery's status, including incoming and outgoing currents of each port and real-time remaining capacity readouts.

The VM-140-FP has a 14.8V output and supports up to a 15A draw, with Power Delivery up to 100W, so attached devices receive optimal power for rapid charging. Depending on your gear's requirements, the USB-C output current is adjustable from 1 to 6.5A. Innovative operating modes allow the battery to be used as a portable power bank capable of charging another battery, recalibrating the battery, and limiting charging to 75% capacity for optimal long-term storage. It can be recharged with a V-mount charger or via the USB-C port.

This 140Wh battery is IATA/ICAO carry-on airline compliant.

V-Mount Power
This battery fits into most standard V-mount plates, and it will power any camera, light, or monitor that draws up to 15A.
D-Tap Connector
The battery has a D-Tap port to power gear like monitors, cameras, or lights, eliminating the need to add extra batteries or power cables to run these accessories.
Multiple USB Connections

The easy-to-read screen displays constant updates on the battery's status, including incoming and outgoing currents of each port. It also displays the battery's operating temperature and current draw so you can always operate within safe parameters. There is also a 4-LED battery status indicator.

One of the Most Sophisticated V Mount Batteries I’ve Used

The Watson FastPower VM 280 FP is one of the most sophisticated V Mount batteries I’ve used, and it has a lot of features that I haven’t seen on other batteries in this price range. What really surprised me is that some of these features aren’t even found on much more expensive V Mount batteries. The first thing that caught my attention was the display. It shows pretty much everything you would want to know at a glance, including the remaining battery capacity, incoming and outgoing current, temperature, and what the different ports are doing. What I really like is that the display dims after a few minutes but never actually turns off. I’m so glad they did this! I hate when a battery display goes completely black and you have to press a button every time you want to check it. And then it comes back on at full brightness. With this battery, the display is always there when you need it. The 100W USB C Power Delivery is another big deal for me. A lot of batteries top out at 65W PD, which just isn’t enough for some of the equipment I use, especially lights that are powered through USB C. Having 100W available is a big advantage. I also really like all the mounting options. You get six 1/4 20 threads plus a cold shoe mount. That gives you a lot of options for adding small accessories to your rig. And honestly, the cold shoe was something I wasn’t expecting. You don’t see that every day on a V Mount battery. The only thing they forgot was a cup holder! Another feature I’ve wanted for a long time is the ability to charge a battery to 75% and then stop charging for long term storage. The VM 280 FP has a Charge Storage Mode that does exactly that. I was actually looking for a V Mount charger that could do this and couldn’t find one. Every battery is a little different, so trying to manually stop charging at 50%, 75%, or whatever percentage you want isn’t exactly easy. Watson solved that problem. One thing to know is that the battery has to be below 75% before you can use the storage mode. If it’s already above 75%, the feature is disabled. Once you turn it on, the battery charges to 75% and stops. That’s awesome. The battery also lets you adjust the charging current through USB C from 1A up to 7A. There’s also a “One Way Mode”, which means the battery will only send power out and won’t accept power coming in. That’s really useful if you want to use it as a power bank to charge another battery or other equipment. It even has a “Calibration mode” for getting the battery readings as accurate as possible. I honestly don’t think I’ll need to use it because the readings seem very accurate right out of the box, but it’s nice to have the option. You also get V Mount, D Tap, USB C, USB A, and 8/12V DC outputs, and it can handle up to a 15A draw. You can recharge it with a regular V Mount charger or through USB C. Overall, I’m really impressed with this battery. What I like most is that these aren’t just features that look good on a spec sheet. They are things I can actually see myself using when I’m working. The display, 100W USB C, mounting options, 75% storage mode, adjustable charging, and One Way Mode are all genuinely useful. One thing to be aware of before buying is the size. At 280Wh, this battery is over the normal airline carry on capacity limit and carry on compliant. I’m honestly blown away by how much Watson packed into this battery. There are features here that I haven’t seen on batteries that cost quite a bit more. Really impressive battery. Another great thing I noticed is that ,after several days, it doesn't discharge like some V Mount batteries do discharge a little. I left it at 78% and still shows 78% today. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]
