The MH 1004 will feature a 3/8 -16 female connection, with an included 1/4 -20 reducer bushing for smaller threads. These two size choices will accommodate pretty much any standard tripod.

What is the diameter of the base?
The base of the unit is 7/8 . The thread size is 1/4 It comes with a collar for a smaller size. It fits on my light stand. I'm extremely pleased with it and it works perfectly.

Can it hold a SB600 or similar flash?
Sorry, I do not know the answer to this question. We use the MH 1004 Mini Ball Head in mechanical mounting system not related to photography.
