question

I read that there is a possibility that the pellets that are orange and go blue might be problematic. Does anyone know about this?
Asked by: Harvey
As it absorbs moisture the color of the pellets change. Instructions are enclosed with product and on item on how to reactivate the pellets.

question

Is this reusable? Can you put in oven to dry out?
Asked by: Harvey
The pellets in the Pelican Desiccant Silica Gel for All Cases are orange. When they turn clear they need to be reactivated. Put them in an oven at 300 to 350 degrees for about three hours or until they turn orange.

question

Can I use this with the Pelican 1560SC. Will it keep my photo equipment dry and free of moisture? How do you know when to stick this unit in the oven to dry out? I read it goes from blue to pink, Is this wrong?/Thanks.
Asked by: Harvey
Yes, you can. I personally use it with pelican case 1510 and usually have at least two of those units in each case.I have not had any issues with mold or fungus caused by moisture.I always look at the color, when it starts changing that is when I reactivate the product following the instructions found on the unit.

question

Help!! I need to know which Pelican drying kit to buy. Is the kit that says 2 hours @ 280 degrees the one that is toxic ( pink to blue) or is the one clear to blue 3 hours @300 degrees the non toxic one?
Asked by: Harvey
I believe it to be the 3h @ 300 degrees non toxic. I have many of them spread throughout my equipment and it works just fine!

Yes. Once it reaches a certain color they tell you to place them in the oven. Inside the blister are instructions on how to do it.

question

I own a Pelican 1560 camera and lighting box. I have placed most of my Nikon equipment and lens in this box. The Pelican boxes have air valves to balance the pressure and have O rings all around the rim- By all intents and purposes, the box is air tight. I have placed a Pelican silica gel into this box to remove any moisture ( if any) from the box. I do not open this box more then two or three times a year, and the gel is still a light orange. My question is, by placing the silica in an air tight box, can I dry out the seals on the camera, and lens to a point that I will have to replace them, or worse, damage the electronics?. One person said it will not cause a problem. How about rubber wires? Will it dry them out?The place I store my box is warm all winter, and from time to time in the spring and summer. It is in a large closet with little ventilation.I turn to you our experts to answer this question.Thanks.
Asked by: Harvey
The seals in your equipment are safe. Many environments are extremely low humidity and have no adverse effects due to silica gel. In no way does it render the level to 0%

question

I purchased the storm case 2700 with padded dividers. someone told me to place the gel UNDER the bottom pad.. Is this correct?
Asked by: JEFF
You can place it anywhere in the case. I found that the silica gel container burst open and created a huge mess in the first flight, so I gaffer taped the sides shut. Now it works great! I use three pelican cases for international travel with photo equipment, and each have a silca gel container with gaffers tape inside. They have been holding strong for 2 years now.
