Pelican 1500-500-000 reviews

Silica Gel is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 149.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from SAVED my Lens! My lens had considerable amounts of condensation build-up and no matter what I did I could not reverse it. I tried every trick I could find online and after 5 days decided that I needed to try this product. After 48 hours in a ziploc bag with my lens, ALL condensation is gone. This product is amazing and I give it my highest recommendation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I hope they work I have 3 of these in some pelican cases. I don't see them working but I bought them more for peace of mind and having some sort of insurance that my gear is as properly protected as I can make it. The orange pellets inside are very faint but are orange (which means they're operational) Now, they were this colour right out of the packaging so I don't know if they should be brighter or if that's the colour at 100% functioning. Pelican should have a chart that explains how orange they should be. Not too many customers want to open new product and bake them straight away.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Practical! I didn't realize until after I had purchased this item that you have to bake it in an oven for a couple of hours (3 hrs)before you can use it and each time thereafter when it has to be reset. This is impractical because I would not turn my oven on for 3 hours just to set this product. Yes, I could put it in the oven when I am baking a food dish however most food items that I bake do not take 3 hours. Needless to say I have never used this product since I purchased it because I can't be bothered to activate it. Also it is a bit bigger than I had anticipated - I was hoping to use it inside of my standard size camera bag and whilst it could probably fit inside of this bag it is a bit long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Have Accessory for Humid Climates! I bought this for use in my Pelican 1501 LOC Case. Before completing my purchase, I decided to buy two to make sure that humidity/moisture within my case would be near zero. Other reviewers have mentioned that the tin that holds the silica gel beads sometimes open and even though Pelican has taken steps to prevent this (use of dimples to secure it), it makes sense to go the extra step and seal the bottom where the upper and lower halves of the tin meet -cheap insurance and less frustration should you experience this. One thought: I have yet to go through TSA screening with these in my gear case and I do not know if they will be easily recognized by security. Even though it s clearly stamped indicating contents and use, it would probably be a good idea to keep them on top and easily accessible should you have to open your bag.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I'm sure it does it's job, however... I put this in a gun case. When I opened the case several months later, the gel tin had popped open and there were silica balls everywhere. I think I know what happened. I put a ball in water and watched it under a 10x loupe. It appeared to swell up. It's possible that as it absorbs moisture, the silica could swell and can pop open the tin, sending little balls everywhere. Just put on rubber band around the thing and you'll be good. Just make sure you take the band off when you put it in the oven to dry it out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness, I can not recommend a product more. I recently returned from the Big Island of Hawaii where it was not only hot, but incredibly humid. If I had not brought these with me in my LowPro case (Yes, I have some in a bulkier Penican case as well and have loved them for years.) I would have been scared of the damage the humidity might do to my equipment. I had three of these in my LowPro case for two weeks with my equipment and by the time I returned home the crystals were clear and in need of recharge in the oven. I love that these are re-usable. I've used these for years in a variety of equipment cases and I honestly can't imagine not investing in them and protecting your gear investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool Product This is a great product for keeping your camera equipment in your bag from getting affected by humidity. I keep this in my camera bag at all times, especially when I travel to the Caribbean and other warm places, and it should work. I really like that it is infinitely reuseable - if the orange beads in the window turn clear (to show they've absorbed as much moisture as they can) you just put the thing in the oven for a few hours to dry it out and it is good to go again!
