Rated 5 out of 5 by from DON'T LET THE PRICE FOOL YOU ! I AM THE DRUMMER IN MY BAND. IM ALSO THE FIX IT GUY ! WE HAVE A TON OF CORDS THAT WE KEPT THROWING IN THE BAD BOX. WELL, THANKS TO THIS WONDERFUL GERMAN PRODUCT I CAN FIN. SEE THE BOTTOM OF THE BOX AGAIN! MOST WERE BAD, SOME WERE NOT (guitar players always blame the cord !) THIS UNIT DID EXACTLY WHAT IT SAID IT COULD, HANDS DOWN ! IT'S NOT A PLASTIC TOY EITHER, I WAS SURPRIZED HOW HEAVY IT FELT WHEN I OPENED THE BOX. WITH THE CORDS I HAVE REPAIRED IN THE LAST FEW DAYS I COULD BUY A HUNDRED OF THESE. PRICE IS NOT ALWAYS THE FACTOR WHEN IT COMES TO QUALITY. SOMETIMES A COMPANY CARES ENOUGH TO GIVE YOU BOTH !! BUY IT !!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from SIGNALS CROSSED I bought the Behringer CT100 cable tester because I make all my audio cables and want to test them before they are connected to a device. If you only plan on testing balanced XLR or unbalanced phono connections this device is a good product, order it now and stop reading. If you want to fully understand the logic and full implementation of the Behringer CT100 please continue reading. The Box The overall quality if the inputs and output connectors is good. The box is solid and compact and with the purchase of other adapters like an XLR (male) to T3A (male) connector you can test other cable connectors, extending the usefulness of the tester. I also like the fact that this tester included the 1kHz test tone feature, but as other reviewers have stated the battery door and belt clip is the weakest elements in the design. Additional Parts As a device it requires other stuff to put it into use. You will need 2 AA batteries and a small Phillips head screwdriver. A replacement screw for the battery compartment would also be handy, a small flashlight if you work on location and some type of storage container to hold all the equipment needed to change the batteries. LED Display Logic Behringer states on it's packaging that this device has a super-easy operation with intuitive LED display. I would agree that it is easy to plug in the connectors, but I do not agree with the intuitive display. To understand the LED pattern array, the manufacture should have printed common visual test examples on the last page of its user guide, (which is a blank page). Visual displays are better with informational keys to better understand both the information and the logic of the visual code. As example, a road map without a size or distance scale would have some utility, but would be more useful with the other information. As a side note if you are interested in visual explanations please see the works by Edward Tufte. His books on 'The Visual Display of Quantitative Information' and 'Visual Explanations' are eloquent. Cable Testing The cable testing functions worked well, but I did not have any damaged cables to test. The cable testing display contains a 9 LED lights/cells display that is similar to a tic-tac-toe board. A well made balanced cable will light up 3 LED lights running diagonally from the upper right corner to the lower left corner of the light array. If you are testing XLR connectors and pin 1 is grounded to the XLR chassis the grounded shield LED will light up. Test Tone Generator I also tested the CT100 1kHz test tone generator (-50 mic level signal output) by recording it and comparing it to the 1kHz tone at mic level sent from a Sound Devices 442 field mixer. Both signals were recorded using the same gain structure. All three devices had new batteries installed and I found that the Behringer 1kHz tone produced an 5.3 dB signal compared with the 0dB signal from the Sound Devices mixer. While this test is far from conclusive it would be useful to test your CT100 against another piece of professional grade equipment. Conclusion While I do think this device will be useful, the company should improve the quality and quantity of information in both the user manual and the website.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gets the Job Done This device is well built and easy to use. There is the unusual issue of the belt clip blocking the battery compartment but that is a minor inconvenience. Checking out cables is simple and effective but this box earned it's price at its first live gig. I had no sound through a bass guitar DI box. Checking cables was going to be hard due to length and location of the runs. I used the built in signal generator and quickly located the problem as the DI box. I replaced it with a backup and no more than a few minutes was lost. Its a simple device but when you need it, you need it. I have no complaints!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like that Cars song: Just What I Needed! I went into B & H for some other items and then remembered I was pricing cable testers online when I saw this one in a display case. This being B & H, they had six or seven cable testers at all price points but I went with the cheapest, since I only occasionally have use for one. I needed it because I'd recently wired up a custom guitar pedal board, making my own non-soldered cables, and there was connectivity issues. This little baby found the bad cables and I was able to re-do them. It's now in my audio toolkit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very useful product I run the sound system at my church so it is live sound so when something goes down you need something like this to find and fix the problem fast the only thing that I know that I would change about the product is have a remote that plugs into my snake to test the cable that is 60 feet away the only thing that it checks now is for shorts but if it had something to plug into the other end and check it that way would be great it is well worth the money I gave for it and I would recommend this to my friends

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but not very accurate. I've only used a 1/4 cable to test it. So far it works but I had an issue to put batteries in the back. You need a mini screwdriver which I did not have. So I had to buy one. I had another issue where I had to perform and I had a short in my pedal board. I used the cable tester and found which cable was faulty. However, after I fixed the cable, the tester said it was fine and once I placed it back in the pedal board, it still was messing up. So I had a backup cable and use that instead. So I don't know if I would recommend this but I'll give it another try.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cable tester is what I needed !! I usually deal with B&H thru work but I purchased this tester on my own for use at our church. I was happy with the quick shipping and no extra charge. We have a lot of work to do on our PA system. I was able to use the test tone function to find unbalances in the system. I have already recommended microphones for us to purchase and we may be looking at transformers or different speakers. Thanks for your sales and excellent service, Bob F. Sweet Valley, PA
