Nikon 2236 overview

  • 1Description

The 58mm Circular Polarizer II Filter from Nikon is an upgraded version of the original Nikon Circular Polarizer. This filter is now slimmer in design, leaving the front and rear threads the same size as opposed to the original version that featured a larger front thread. The filter is now multi-coated which is a benefit in that it minimizes any flare and glare that reaches the sensor or film plane of your camera. This means more saturation and clearer images that are more crisp and contrasty.

The front ring rotates with the polarization visible in the viewfinder or on your LCD screen. When shooting on a bright day, this means you can control the "blueness" of the sky as well as having control of how distinct you want the cloud formations. For the outdoor shooter, this filter is a must since it is the only way to make a blue sky bluer. In addition, when shooting into water or glass, you can minimize or eliminate the reflections often associated with landscape or scenic photography. Therefore, if you're shooting a store window or inside a museum into a showcase, glass obstructions will no longer be a problem. A polarizer tends to have its maximum effect when used at right angle to the sun. A polarizing filter, along with a UV filter should be a part of everyone's gear.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

This version of the filter is now slimmer than the original version that had a larger front thread. Presently, both front and rear threads are the same size
The glass is now multi-coated minimizing flare and glare on the sensor or film plane
Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras
This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance

    Nikon 2236 reviews

58mm Circular Polarizer II Filter is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Satisfied Nikon customer I bought this filter for my new Nikon D5100, I have owned it for one month and it has performed up to my (high) expectations. I decided to go with the Nikon after reading so-so reviews for cheaper off-brand polarizers. It attaches quickly and easily to my 55mm-300mm zoom lens and to my B&W 52mm to 58mm step up ring (that allows it to fit onto my 18mm-55mm Nikon lens that came with the camera). It rotates smoothly and provides uniform filtering across the entire lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a Nikon! It's a Nikon, what can I say! Actually, the reason I like the Nikon CPL filters so much is that they are easy to turn (I've had B&W and Hoya that are very stiff), they don't cause a color shift in the White Balance and they are very thin so they work well on my Nikon 16-35mm lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this filter Using it with a 55-300 F4.5-5.6 telephoto lens on a Nikon Digital camera. This lens has Nikon's reliable high quality glass. The photos at the beach or by the pool on a sunny day are fantastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does its job What to say? It's basically a lens saver. Having said that, it does what it's supposed to do very well. High quality glass as is expected as well as overall construction. The slim designation means you can normally slap on a slim polarizer or other filter on front of it without too much in the way of vignetting. You really can't afford not to put one of these on every lens you have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent polarizing filter This is the second one I've purchased from Nikon. I have the 67mm as well. Both work much more smoothly than my 77mm B+W. They do the job and do not get in the way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does a great job Have been using the filter when shooting landscapes and it enhanced the picture considerably. Very easy to hit the sweet spot as I adjust it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always on..... The Nikon Circular Polarizer is well worth the investment. I take mostly landscape and nature photography and I always have this on my lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is what is promised If you want a good CPL (circular polarizer) filter. Nikon CPL Filter II can be recommended. Even the included filter box is good.
