Whirlwind IM2 Overview

The IMP 2 from Whirlwind is a rugged built, single-channel, passive direct box. The unit converts a line- or instrument-level unbalanced signal to a low-impedance microphone-level balanced signal.

Direct boxes are often referred to as "DI" boxes. This stands for "Direct Injection" as their main purpose is to convert unbalanced and/or high-impedance instrument signals into a format suitable for direct connection to a mixing console without the use of a microphone.

Whirlwind IM2 Reviews

Not as pictured, but good

Great DI. Works as well as my Radial at half(ish) the price. Lightweight, compact, nice flat bottom perfect for attaching to pedal board if need be. Whisper quiet. Was hoping for the metal jack as shown in the picture, but the plastic jack seems sturdy enough.

Do the work

Do the work, but you need a really good preamp to get a decent gain to work with.

Can I plug both stereo unbalanced outputs from my keyboard mixer into the two 1/4" jacks?
Asked by: Sloan
These are meant for mono sources, so you'll need 2; one for left and one for right. The second 1/4" jack is meant as a passthrough

question

what cables are needed for direct box?
Asked by: Anonymous
atleast a 1/4 TS cable and an xlr, 1/4 out can be used as a through or to run stereo in (parallel) so technically you could have two xlr cables coming in going out the xlr, or your could run one 1/4 TS in and the other out to an amp while running the xlr out

question

what cables do I need to operate a direct box?
Asked by: Anonymous
You will need an XLR microphone cable to connect to your mixing board and an instrument cable with 1/4 inch connectors to connect your instrument.
