Manfrotto 012B reviews

Backlight Stand with Pole (Black, 33.5") is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like this stand I bought one of these backlight stands about 10 or so years ago and i just bought a second one. Back in the day you used to have to pay extra for black stands. This one comes in black as standard and seems to be the same high quality as the older stand with one noticeable improvement. The knob for tightening the pole used to be an uncomfortable squarish shape. Now they use a much better, wing-nut style tightener. Nice. I use this stand for back lights and main lights that i need lower than my other stands will allow. I've also used it to mic my bass drum or amp, mount a Zoom H4 stereo recorder, etc. Its pretty versatile.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect This sturdy stand folds up easily and is sturdy enough to support an AlienBee strobe with a small modifier. It is much shorter than my other light stands, which is the point. It's easy to take the adjustable extension pole in and out depending on the height you need. The only downside is there is no in-between height between having the extension pole at it's lowest height or using just the base. You go from approximately 20 off the ground to 3.5 off the ground. If you want your light 10 off the ground, this isn't going to work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice find... I use these stands or holding speedlights or mono heads when lighting backgrounds. Very good quality and very sturdy with a fair amount of weight for their size. Would have given 5 stars but stands don't really extend from 3.5 up to 33.5. They can be used at 3.5 and then from about 16 or so up to 33.5. They break down easily and are quite compact when broken down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well thought out.. This back light stand actually is only about 3 inches off the ground.. it is perfect to slide in behind things and stay out of the photo.. This also has a an extension pole if you want the light to be higher which is great behind a piece of furniture.. it has been thought out nicely..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy little stand This stand does what it's supposed to do. It is well built and cleverly designed. I have a couple of regular Manfrotto stands also, and like the quality and workmanship of their products. I opted to get the stand and pole combo for greater versatiliy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it's supposed to do. Seems to be well-made, breaks down to a small size, holds a light. Not much more to be said. Significantly shorter than my previous background stand, which was basically just a very small lightstand. Has the additional advantage that it can be opened part-way to a 'T' shape and placed directly against wall to serve as a support for something (I used two of these with superclamps to hold the base of a sheet of plexi against a window)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for low lighting I bought this and a 156BLB at the same time thinking they would each have their strengths and weaknesses and that turned out to be the case. By omitting the extension pole this unit puts your light low to the ground and is solid. Being heavier than the 15BLB and with legs that extend out further it feels much less likely to tip over and can handle more weight. The legs have stops on them so when spreading they naturally stop when evenly spaced a third apart. The pivot joint is stiff, so some force is required to spread the legs but once in place they'll stay where you want them. The legs have generous rubber tips so they won't scratch the floor and won't slide around. I don't intend to use the fully extended center column so I can't comment on fully extended use. Unlike the 156BLB, there's enough room to put sandbags on the legs, but I don't think I'll ever need to.
