Matthews Medium Duty Maxi Reviews

Costs more, but worth the extra spend

Because airlines have become increasingly strict on oversize baggage and charges have increased exponentially, I have gone to working with shorter stands for lower budget jobs that don't require a bunch of lighting and grip gear. 9' stands fit into the Tenba rolling tripod case that is 38" long and has total dimensions just under the 62" lxwxh maximum for "standard" bags. I've tried a couple of less expensive stands from Manfrotto and they simply don't cut it - the stops are not as strong and the stands are extremely wobbly. Finally bit the bullet and purchased this Matthews stand, knowing it would not have the same issues and have not been disappointed. I will be buying a second one of these soon. I can assure you the $100 you might save on a less expensive stand is not worth the headaches that come with using cheap gear. I have, and still use, the same c-stands I purchased back in 1998. Buy the Matthews product and it will likely outlast your career - end of story.

I've been using these for production monitors, director monitors, smaller lights like Aputure 60's and Amaran 200's etc
