Medium Duty Maxi Kit Stand (Black, 9.4' ) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Aluminum, Not Steel I bought the Matthews Medium Duty Maxi Kit Stand (Black), Model #B387485, thinking it was a black colored version of the Matthews Medium Duty Maxi Steel Kit Stand, Model #387485. The B&H web page description does say steel. But the Matthews web page description does not mention steel or aluminum construction. Weight specifications for both the #B387485 and the #387485 light stands is stated as 8.5 lbs. However, upon receiving the #B387485 light stand, I discovered it is aluminum, not steel and only weighs 4.5 lbs. Despite the description misunderstanding, I judge this light stand to be of very high quality and expect it to serve my need to support a large umbrella and strobe very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy & Durable I've had three of these for about 8 years and with exception of some scratches on the paint they still work as good as new. I recently lost one so this was a replacement purchase for me but I'd buy them again and again. All metal parts & knobs, no plastic. A great durable quality stand for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Light Stand I bought this in hopes that this would support the Mole 2k light that I own and found that it's not quite sturdy enough hold it. However, with that said, compared to the Arri lightweight lightstand that I'm used to working with in using our 650s and lower tungsten light, this is just as great. It's well-built and from a reliable company whose c-stands I enjoy using. Definitely recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mid-weight stand for portraits on location. The Matthews Medium Duty 9.4' aluminum stand is a real Knock Out! Light weight, tall, wide footprint, stable at max height with an Elinchrom Quadra/ELB 400 and big 53 octa or 39 deep octa. When I don't need the versatility or want the weight of a c-stand, I take this stand for portraits. It's the perfect height for large modifiers. Quick to set up and easy to latch locked with a half-twist of the knobs. I recommend this stand if you need something beefy and tall(ish) but easy to carry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stands I have two of these now, good counter parts to the Heavy/Light stand which basically a c-stand with light stand legs. These are about half the price and half the weight with a much smaller footprint. The lights I use them for are only about 12lbs, which I like to always overshoot my weight that way I know they'll be stable at max height (the swaying of lights 9 feet in the air makes me nervous) Because they are fairly light for their height and weight limits you'll want to sand bag these cause they do easily slip around on the smooth floor.A little bigger then what you might find in a packaged light kit, but I would definitely choose these if building your own kit as your general purpose light stands. If you don't need the height and weight capacity the matthews reverse stands and a great way to save space and weight, but their costs are close to each other $ bucks I think

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong and Light I use these to hold my Alien Light Bee strobes. They're light enough to take on location yet sturdy enough give adequate support. They're listed as 8.5 lbs but are only 6.5 lbs. I have come to like heavier stands because they're less apt to tip over, without having to resort to sand bags. Price wise they're in the middle. I wouldn't recommend buying anything cheaper because you'll regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stand for a good price Surprisingly sturdy for such a lightweight build. Smooth operation of parts and maximum height of 9.5' is very handy. Collapses to convenient 36 for storage & transport. Great stand for light to medium production in field and in studio.
