Designed primarily for use in lighting kits, this 12.4' Matthews Light/Heavy Triple Riser Kit Stand is compact and lightweight. Many MSE Kit Stands employ a brake shoe system for locking off the riser tubes as opposed to pinch castings, thus permitting the use of heavier fixtures.

Light/Heavy Triple Riser Kit Stand (12.4') is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light Heavy ? Just call it Sturdy! I choose these light stands for my Alien Bee 1600's after reading reviews of the PCB stands. Having used Matthews grip equipment before I had no reservations about buying these aluminum stands. When they arrived I was not disappointed they are very well made and will handle my strobes with the largest soft boxes. They are very solid and do not sway when fully extended even without sandbags(always use sandbags myself). The stands also are steady outside in light wind at the beach. The only thing missing is a rocky mountain leg, good thing I have apple boxes. I have ordered two more for backdrop support to complete my portable portrait studio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best light stand ever used I've used light stands from just about all the major names, but nothing beats a Matthews stand! This is the gold standard for this type of design. Everything is metal, they use nuts and bolts, not easily breakable rivets in the places that have the most torsional stresses applied to them. The brake shoe system is second to none. The risers lock up TIGHT and do not move. I haven't found another brand that locks up so well. There are two things I would like to see improved as good as this stand is. 1. A more durable black powder coating. 2. Knurling on the baby pin collar to provide a better bite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best from the best This is no toy ! Light/Heavy ? So what is it ? !! Well this light stand is a heavy duty beast. It can stand the test of time and can accommodate a 7' umbrella with medium strobe or multiple speed lights , without problem. And it is not made out of steel but heavy gauge aluminum, so the weight is acceptable . The 3 risers deploy flawlessly, and a small turn of the brakes secures them in place. Add 3 wheels to this beauty, and you have a pro light stand that looks fabulous and does the job well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Matthews stands This is a good stand for someone who would be using it with lighter weight equipment on top. I do a lot of work with larger strobes and Softboxes and using this outdoors with a little wind blowing made me uneasy. This is a quality stand but just not for my needs. I returned it and opted out for another Matthews stand that was heavier and made out of steel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong I have many light stands made by Matthews, from compact lightweight reversible kind to the middle of the road kind. I got this for one of my heavier lights, I tend to buy stands who's weight limits far exceed my lights because the sway of stands bothers me. This stand more resembles a c-stand in its size construction, etc. Make no mistake this is a big stand but is the best weight/size/cost I think you'll find before you step up to the 200+ range of steel stands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Stand This is made from such high quality materials. Not too heavy but as solid as a rock. Extends much higher than i expected which is good. I've just purchased another one. Brilliant quality as you would expect from Matthews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from C-Stand travel substitute I usually use c-stands but if I'm traveling or needing my assistants to carry a lot on the go this stand was perfect. It's still fairly long when colapsed but at 7 lbs it is so light!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Own two These are my light stands of choice. Matthews always makes a solid product and is my first brand to consider for any grip gear. They are very well-made, hold up to a lot of abuse, and lock up tight, no play! The black coating does wear off easily, but not so much that it would ever be an issue. I do find it odd that the tip of the baby pin is not in knurled or textured for extra bite. With use, it gets etched a bit though and gives you more bite when screwing items onto it.
