Can the pin be removed and have just threading off the scissor clip?
Yes, you may unscrew the pin on the Avenger C1000 to expose the threading.

Are there extension poles that can be attached to this to hang items lower?
I don't think that's a good idea. These are intended for connecting to drop ceiling frames. An extension pole and light attached to this scissor clamp, could damage the clamp or worst case scenario, bring the ceiling down on you.

What is the recommended maximum weight this can hold?
That would depend on the structure of the ceiling grid. The actual metal grids can sustain 3-5 lbs before starting to give. if the Grid is not suspended properly then watch out. I have hung 4 light soft boxes, LED par cans and other small lighting fixtures from them.

Hi, I assume the threads on the pin to be 1/4 ? ... and if so, is the pin male or female?
The threads on the pin is a 1/4 Male, easy to go with a baby pin female.
