Optimized for close-up shooting, the Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8 from Nikon is a versatile short-telephoto lens well-suited for a range of subjects, including anything from portraiture to product photography. The manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.3' away with a high 1:2 maximum magnification. The optical design uses a Close Range Correction system, which maintains consistent image quality and sharpness from the minimum focusing distance to infinity. Additionally, a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in a variety of lighting conditions and enables working with shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

question
Is it possible to take photographs of 35mm slides using this 105mm lens (1:2) and a DX format camera? Will the entire 35mm slide fill the DX sensor or will I lose part of the original image or get an external frame around the image? Or should I use a 1:1 lens (105mm) or yet another lens?
I recommend sending your 35mm slides to a professional with a high quality scanner to get them digitized.

Is this the D or G lens?
This pre-dates the D & G lenses but to categorize it, it would fall under the D category as it has a manually adjustable aperture ring.
