Great for 35mm contacts, so much better than open glass proofers

I love these proofers, though you have to buy different ones for each size negatives you use. I have my college darkroom fitted out with one for every enlarger station. When you use the plain glass version and lay out all your negs on the test strip paper, and then open it to process the test strip, all the negs move around and fall out and have to be replaced on the actual print page. In these, the negs sit well secured on the glass and you can open and close as you please, making multiple test strips if needed and multiple contact sheets if needed (like different exposure ones if you negs have a wide range of exposures). I know some cheat by putting their negs in a clear plastic storage sheet and exposing through that onto the paper, but that is not professional, the emulsion is not in contact with the paper and is murky through the plastic. These are the best way to do it and my students loved the upgrade from the plain glass versions we used previously. The only downsides are that they are over priced and that the foam inside does deteriorate over time, turning to powder (over many years).

Waste of money

Unfortunately, the lines on the glass make it necessary to remove the film strips from archival sleeves to make the print. It is awkward and frustrating trying to get the individual film strips to line up atop the print paper, to end up all in alignment with the lines on the glass before lowering it to make a print. Planning to contact awesome customer service people at B & H to see if I can return it and get one that will accommodate archival sleeves with negatives inside, and still contact print all 36 negatives.

I have 2 Paterson contact printers, both in excellent condition except the grey foam backing that the photographic paper is placed on has disintegrated and fallen apart. I want to know where I can buy this backing in order to replace it? Thank you

You can try using a foam board, which is available at this link https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/996282-REG/archival_methods_82_8511_1_8_acid_free_foamboard_8_5.html . The product enables the user to place an 8X10 photo paper between the negatives (top) and the foam (bottom) in a darkroom to make a contact print of the negatives. This product is not exactly a replacement but it should work.
