Nikon 8218 overview

  • 1Description

Compact and lightweight, the Nikon 10x25 Trailblazer ATB Binocular is an ideal companion for watching birds and wildlife on the trail, your favorite team at the stadium, or just sightseeing around town.

The combination of high-index BAK4 roof prisms and anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics work together to maximize light transmission to offset the dimming often associated with high-power optics with smaller objectives—ensuring bright and clear high-contrast images with accurate color fidelity across its generous field of view.

Complementing the optics are design details that make the Trailblazer comfortable and easy to hold. The bridge is built with dual hinges that allow the optical tubes to fold under it to minimize the footprint to take up as little space as possible when stored in your pack, pocket, purse, or glove box. Its polycarbonate chassis helps to reduce the weight without sacrificing strength or stability, and it is wrapped in a protective rubber armor that provides a secure slip-resistant grip even in cold and wet weather. To withstand the rigors of being exposed to the elements, the optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging.

Optical Performance
  • 10x magnification allows for detailed observations of distant subjects
  • 25mm objective lenses help to produce a compact form factor
  • Roof prism optical path ensures a low-profile design that is easy to hold
  • High-index BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics maximize light transmission for brighter views and improved color fidelity and contrast
  • Apparent angle of view approaches wide angle to minimize the appearance of distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics and to present an immersive observational experience
  • Generous 342' field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Closed-bridge configuration provides a stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Low-profile center focusing wheel helps to maintain a compact form and minimizes snagging hazard
  • Right-eye dioptric correction allows users to compensate for optical prescription for sharper views
  • Broad 56-72mm interpupillary adjustment distance for easy use by a wide variety of people—especially those with narrow faces such as children and adolescents
  • Twist-up rubber eyecups for easy use with or without eyewear
  • 10mm eye relief
  • 2.5mm exit pupil
Construction Details
  • Environmentally friendly prisms and lenses feature Eco-Glass, which is made without lead or arsenic
  • Dual-hinge design allows the optical tubes to fold under the bridge when closed to minimize the form factor for easier storage and carrying
  • Lightweight and impact-resistant polycarbonate chassis
  • Chassis material is temperature resistant, preventing the expansion and contraction that is common with metal, which can cause the optical components to move out of alignment over time and prevent sharp focus
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperature and environmental conditions
  • Protective rubber armor provides a slip-resistant grip
  • Lightweight 9.9 oz

Nikon 8218 reviews

10x25 Trailblazer ATB Binoculars is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Performance Stellar optics with sharp, high-contrast images. Amazingly, they have a field of view similar to 10x40 binoculars, but half the size and weight. Very short minimum focus distance allows good views of small critters. Added bonus that they're waterproof (but haven't tested that). Only minor downside is the adjustable extension mechanism of the eye-pieces. They work OK with glasses, but give a much more limited field of view. Without glasses, you have to remember to turn them to the extended position to avoid eyelashes hitting the lenses and leaving smudges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nikon delivers great optics in a compact form. We go backpacking and cycling where weigh it and issue. We also have traveled to Africa and the new weight restrictions on luggage coupled with the need to also carry camera gear means you have to have a pair of binoculars that work well in dusty, hazy conditions, take a beating if the are dangling around your neck in a bouncing vehicle, withstand being crammed at the bottom of a pack and exposed to damp and heat. We bough THIS pair as a graduation gift for my nephew because we have been so impressed with an earlier generation NIKON 10x 25 binoculars we bought in 1983 which are STILL true and clear. Nikon knows how to make good glass and has a rugged design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great binoculars! This will be a gift for our son, who is in college studying meteorology and is turning 21. He will be using these in his field work, observing weather and weather patterns. These will be very useful to him. He also likes to do bird-watching, so these will be excellent for that purpose as well. He goes to all the football games at college, so I'm sure he will be glad to have these. I took these out and tried them. I was very impressed with the quality, how light-weight they are and the clarity of the objects as I viewed them through the lens. It seems like a very good product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Ergos I like these binoculars, they handle really well and are easy to use. The focus ring is easy to reach and turn, and they fold up into a compact package. I got the 10 power ones, but realized that they are more powerful than I need--for a pair of compact binoculars with a relatively small front element, it is worth it to have a little more field of view and brightness rather than the extra magnification. I'm exchanging them for the 8x version and expect to be very satisfied with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A quality piece of equipment Needed to replace a set of compact binoculars my wife uses at concerts/theater. These provide improved magnification while retain a wide angle view that similarly priced competition cannot match. Clear image, easy to focus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice for the price! Overall, I would say that these binoculars work great. The 10x mag is perfect for wildlife viewing and the portable size is a real plus. Although they do appear to be waterproof (or at least rainproof), I would not call them fogproof. They do fog. Also, the lens caps do not have a string or other means of attachment to one another or the binocular body. This makes them too easy to drop or misplace. I haven't lost either of mine yet but can certainly see how this could occur. For the price I paid, these binoculars are really nice but they aren't perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact binocular for wide application I use this binocular to see areas before taking a photo.... The dial for diopter adjustment is great for those who have problems with vision. The only thing that disappointed me was that the eyepiece caps are separate for each eyepieces and its easy to loose.
