With its exceptional apparent angle of view, the Tele Vue Ethos 8mm Ultra Wide-Angle Eyepiece offers a comfortable eye relief despite the short focal length, with high contrast and excellent on-axis sharpness; and virtually zero astigmatism or field curvature across its expansive 100° field of view. Combining a hyper-wide apparent angle of view with its shorter focal length, this Ethos delivers high magnification for enhanced detail on near and deep-sky objects alike while still offering an expansive and immersive observational experience.

A unique design characteristic of the Ethos allows it to be used in the smaller, more common-sized, 1.25" drawtubes and accessories; and with a simple screw-on installation of the included adapter converts it for use in larger 2" versions. This provides users with an easy and convenient way to expand its functionality and versatility, without limiting its use or relying on eyepiece holder reducer adapters. When used in the 1.25" mode, this model is parfocal with a variety of Tele Vue eyepieces, requiring little or no refocusing when changing between them — greatly decreasing vibration and increasing convenience. A textured collar around the housing provides sure handling in cold weather or while wearing gloves, and a fold-down rubber eyecup allows for comfortable use with or without eyeglasses.

    Ethos 8mm Ultra Wide-Angle Eyepiece (1.25"/2") is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simplify your life, buy this eyepiece. Many people look at the price of this eyepiece and find it difficult to justify. I, however, was able to sell my pair of 9mm Naglers and 14mm Pentax pair and get a couple 8mm Ethos for my Denk II Binoviewer and come out nearly even. I was also able to reduce the number of eyepiece pairs in my case and still get more field of view and more magnification than either of the other eyepieces gave me. Now, there's certainly nothing wrong with either the Nagler T6 or the Pentax XW series, but the Ethos gives me more in every area of viewing criteria than either of the others. The views are crisp to the edge, background is very dark and after a few minutes of looking through the binoviewer with the Ethos there is this odd but pleasant sensation of falling into the field of view. I have heard others say it is like looking through a window, but that really doesn't do the experience justice, I truly do get the feeling of being in space, drifting near the object in view. Of course some objects seem to elicit this response more so than others. The moon for example reminds me of the views from the lunar orbiters if you could stick your head outside the spacecraft and look down. If I look with great effort I can see the field stop, but when looking at any object for a while, that field stop disappears. When you buy an eyepiece like this you really have nothing to lose in trying it. The used ones sell for nearly what new Ethos sell for so you could always resell it quickly on the used market. I'm willing to bet only a very few percentage of people, with unique eye problems would find this eyepiece other than essentially perfect. I now have only four eyepieces in my case for use in my 4.8 inch f/11.5 refractor and soon to be unveiled 12.5 inch f/4 reflector. Those eyepieces are a couple of Panoptics for low power widest field of view, and now the 8mm Ethos for EVERYTHING else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing!!! I use this eyepiece in my 10 reflector and a 25 dobsonian, at the observatory where I work. In my 10 the entire moon fits with lots of room to spare at 130x. Planets look sharp, while giving you the feel that you are floating out in space with them, and globular clusters and planetary nebulae simply look amazing with this eyepiece. I highly recommend this eyepiece to the serious astronomer, it's an investment you won't ever regret.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Eyepiece ! This is a magical eyepiece worth the nearly $. I use my Nagler 6 13mm to locate many objects than switch to the Ethos 8mm. Outstanding. The Orion Nebula never looked so good. I'm in a relatively light polluted area and the Ethos just cuts through and delivers an amazingly sharp image. This may sound like a review right from Tele Vue, but they tell it like it is !Give it a try you won't be dissapointed !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TeleView always overachieves Used with Celestron 4 Refractor and C-8. Wide exit pupil allows amazing wide field with great magnification. Rings of Saturn sharp and clear. Moon will truly WOW a first time observer, especially Waxing or Waning with the mountains and shadows. Nice rubber eyecup, but could be a little deeper and stiffer.
