A Must Have for your 14-24mm, but flawed
There is no other lens cap available for the 14-24mm f/2.8 and as the lens can not accept filters to protect it, this is the only protection available that I know of. The cap slips on easily, and that is both good for ease of use and bad that mine slips off too easily. There is no way to secure it to the camera, and that makes it easy to lose. Also the construction is flimsy and scratches easily. I have two spares, just in case I lose my original. I would suggest that with a lens this expensive and vulnerable that Nikon comes up with a better solution for a lens cap.

Not a pro quality lens cap
As far as I know this is the only lens cap solution for the 14-24. I really do not like this plastic cap, however. It often slips off when I pull the lens out of my bag or out of the lens case. The cap on my old Sigma 15-30 is much nicer--metal with proper felt on the inside to stay on like it should.

Get an Extra Cover
I purchased the 14 - 24 lens and I can see why many get nervous. I don't think the protrusion is so terrible, but I have always carried a spare lens cap. With standard 77mm, that's no issue. But with this lens I feel like you simply have to have a replacement. I do nature/landscape work, and it could be easy to lay one down and not be able to find it. It's a safety precaution. It's bulky. Do it anyway. Buy an extra cap.

14-14mm Nikkor Lens Cover
I keep it on my big, fat super wide tele to protect the bulbous front element. If you don't keep the cover on most all the time (unless you are shooting) it would be easy to damage the lens. It slips on over the lens hood and stays there pretty well through tight friction. I lost mine on top of a Colorado peak--forgot to put it back on after setting it down on a rock. If there were some way to attach it to the lens with a lanyard to the lens itself so as to not misplace it, I'd probably do that--a solution maybe not for everyone.

Don't travel far without a spare
Nikon OEM. The Nikkor 14-24 is not a lens you want to put into your bag with a lens cover, and only the special lens cover made for the 14-24 will work. If you have this lens, buy a spare cover.

Purchase fo Front Lens Cover for 14-24mm
I damaged mine and needed a replacement.The Nikon design on this lens cover is most likely the worst they ever made!!Since I like the lens... I have to live with it.
