Just curious what the I.D. (inner diameter) of this cover is or conversely the O.D. of the lens hood?
The internal diameter of the lens Nikon Slip-On Front Lens Cover for 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Lens is 99mm x 30mm. It will cover the built-in petal lens hood on the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens.

Will you be able to place the hood on in closed position with this cap on?
This cap is the same as what is included in the box and fits perfectly on Nikon 14-24mm f2.8

Will this cap fit the nikon 14mm lens?
No it will not. The two lenses have a different external diameter and this would not fit it. Unfortunately we do not carry a spare slip-on cap from Nikon for the 14mm f2.8 prime lens. We do have a 3rd party manufacturer's neoprene type slip-on lens cap which would fit on your lens. See the link below for details:http://bhpho.to/1dnyR2P

It's works just like the original hood that came with the camera.
