The white and mid gray Collapsible Reversible Background from Lastolite opens to a full 5 x 6' background for studio use, and since it folds to one third its original size, it's portable for on location work. This background can be setup in portrait or landscape orientation, whether you are shooting one or more subjects. A reversible background provides the added benefit of allowing you to change the color whenever you choose and the convenience of carrying one less background.

The steel rim is enclosed in rim tape with a triple-reinforced stitch line so it won't pop out, and if the rim comes apart or breaks, it is covered by a lifetime guarantee. Storage bag is included.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worked out perfectly but came with stain The background collapses and opens pretty easily. I liked the grey color. It unified the interview shots well. I would place subjects at least two feet away if using one light to avoid shadows. Too much light behind the background casuses the background to moire a bit so be careful there. It's a bit hard to travel with because there is no shoulder strap and it doesn't fit into conventional suitcases. Mine came with a stain and I'm returning it for a new one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality - Works as expected I needed a durable and easy backdrop to use for on location headshots. I have other Lastolite products and appreciate the quality. I setup and teardown hundreds of times in a year and have found their build holds up. I combined this backdrop with the small interfit backdrop support and the combo makes a light and quick setup. To be clear this is only large enough for half body to headshots. Not full body portraits unless children. See my sample image showing the backdrop suspended on the interfit support. The client is approximately 6 feet from the backdrop to avoid light spill. Behind the client is speedlight on short stand to make the white background clean. Key light on umbrella to right of client and white reflector on his left, both just out of frame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A quality collapsible background While I've been using collapsible reflectors for quite awhile now, this is the first collapsible background I've owned. It's perfect for shooting up to 3/4 length portraits of single subjects. The subject can be posed several feet in front of the background leaving room for a background light while keeping your subject lighting off the background if so desired. If shooting in landscape mode, the background can be rotated horizontally allowing two subjects to be framed up quite nicely. Another great feature is that this product provides either a clean white or a middle gray as background options. Just last week I put it to use as a large front reflector while doing a group shot in the studio. The only downside is that with the quality build comes weight. All in all, a versatile product that should prove useful in many situatons over a long period of time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gray side has stripes When lit by strobes the grey side has subtle and distinct stripes that appears to be part of the weave of the fabric. Lastolite said they are aware of the issue but it doesn't sound like they have corrected the problem at this date. If you are looking for a SOLID gray brackground, you may want to consider another product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pattern of stripes shows through I wanted a black/gray collapsible background, and this is the only one I could find anywhere. It is light and easy to use. The problem is that the sheerness or knit of the fabric allows light to come through the two layers. Light dashed lines appear through the background unless it is up against a dark wall. I now have to carry a dark sheet of fabric that I clip to the back side to eliminate the visible lines. It reduces the value of having this light and portable background.I am using it because I can't find an alternative, and I think carrying two separate backgrounds would be a bigger hassle. If I ever find another brand of black/gray collapsible background, I'll give it a try.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lot of bang for the buck I take a lot of headshots, so I'm always dragging my gear up & down elevators, stairs, and narrow hallways. This background has made my life a lot easier. It's light, it opens easy, and once you learn to fold it back up it takes a few seconds to pack back up. The only complaint I have with it is it doesn't come with directions on how to fold it up. I did a search on youtube and there's plenty of videos that will show you how easy it is to fold it up. I would have given it 5 stars if they did enclose directions, or at least put a video on their website.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Portable BG I bought this background for location headshots so I wouldn't have to set up a seamless. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it the first time and it popped open with no wrinkles. The white side can be used as a background or reflector. The gray side is neutral and can be used for white balance. It has ties on the long sides to attach to light stands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stands Well with No Wrinkles I used this for one to 3 person 1/2 and 3/4 portraits in relatively small spaces at clients homes. I found the stand easy to clip, requiring just carefully looking at how the spring loaded clip works to hold the stiff metal rim of the backdrop. The upper clip should be attached first because it suspends the whole backdrop. Only then raise the stand to above your head and attach the lower clip by sliding the plastic clip ring to the bottom of the backdrop above the bottom tightening knob. Don't try to support the backdrop weight, but suspend it. The bottom clip just steadies the backdrop from twisting. I've used the backdrop in both vertical and horizontal positions for 1/2 and 3/4 poses. It's good for 3 in a family, but not more. The Lastolite material is wonderful because it stretches tightly and shuns wrinkles, unlike some muslin and one collapsible Botero units I tried. Wrinkles mean post processing time- you might be better off with Savage paper! There is an almost invisible horizontal cross warp in the Lastolite material which will barely show if you cannot get the subjects 3-4 feet in front of the backdrop and back off to use a 60 or 70mm lens zoom at 5.6 or wider. But the grain is acceptable if you do not clone stamp or blur it much. Grey color of this unit is as shown, similar to Savage Thunder gray paper. The trick for set up is to start in a room with more than 15 feet of space in front of and across the backdrop wall. Don't worry about what's behind the backdrop, it will not show through as long as it isn't something like a bright window. Gray backdrops look good with most clothing and you can drop them to black or to very light gray by changing your background lighting and gels look great with dark tones. I find it a good color to start with formal portraits. Excellent product, very light and portable. I'd like to have more of these.
