Canon 2191B001 overview

  • 1Description

Canon Circular Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems)

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance

    Canon 2191B001 reviews

77mm Circular Polarizing Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent:Engineered by Canon, for Canon Bear with me here. This filter is excellent. . . here's why. . . 1. Taming the leaf-reflection burnouts: This Canon polarizer is a great investment. I does a fantastic job of cutting down on the glare and refraction which occurs in tree leaves which are being inundated with direct sunlight. With no polarizer, leaf refractions often appear as exposure burnouts which can be distracting to the viewer and make your work look a bit amateurish. The Canon polarizer does wonders for taming these burnouts and replacing them with evenly exposed, rich, saturated color (but not too saturated!). 2. Beautiful blue sky: Though mostly imperceptible to the naked eye, water vapor in the atmosphere does in fact refract sunlight. The sky is therefore kind of like a giant see-through scrim/reflector, which is why it often appears more of a baby blue rather than a royal blue. The Canon polarizer reduces this refraction and turns your skies into a nice rich blue. While you can always turn a sky more blue in post production, it's definitely a good idea to get the best possible image you can in-camera. 3. Quality is everything: If you shoot with Canon L-Glass, why would you put a $60 filter on the end of a $2000 lens? Your image is only as good as your weakest piece of glass. Yes, this filter is pricy, but it was engineered by Canon for Canon. 4. Lens cap Your Canon lens cap will always fit perfectly on the end of your Canon filter. With other brands of filter, your lens cap will fall off. 5. Lens versatility I own the 24-70mm F2.8L, the 70-200mm F2.8L, the 17-35mm F4 L and the 24-105mm F4 L. This filter fits all of these lenses (77mm diameter) and more! Wow, I talk way too much. Enjoy your Canon filter. It is excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth The Price Cheap (under $100) polarizing filters take the edge off the image quality of the Canon L lenses I use. These Canon polarizers do not impact the quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent choice A must have for shooting outside or around water. Superb canon quality. Zero lens flare.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High Quality Polarizing Filter If you need a 77mm circular polarizing filter, this is it. However, it is putting more glass in front of your lens, so it will somewhat, reduce the quality and more iportantly, reduce the amount of light to your camera. If you have a good quality lens in back of your filter and a tripod, not much of a problem.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Should have stuck with what I knew Just did not seem to compare to the B+W polarizer I already have. Did not get the same deep blue skies. Threaded on/off easy and Canon lens cap fits perfectly, though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the price! I bought a cheaper one first and was disappointed I should have followed the advice I had seen online and gotten the Canon filter. why put a cheaper filter in front of expensive glass I use the Canon 100 - 400 zoom and this filter though expensive does the job perfectly. You can adjust it through the lens hood opening no problem and it really does the job, so lesson learned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thin Polarizer with great results I am using this on my Canon 5D Mark II with 70-200 f2.8 lens. I'm getting great results at the lake. The polarizer is thin and threads easily.
